Annie Thorisdottir, CrossFit’s poster child for years, may have kidney damage from the Games. Let that sink in folks. We’ve gone past “these people know what they are getting into” to “one of the fittest females on Earth may have permanent repercussions from this contest.”

Yeah but she got to compete in a recently made up sport that very few people care about. WORTH IT

that was more a criticism of the games, not Crossfit as a whole

The head guy of crossfit is the same one who makes up the Games. The same fat frick who developed some of the crossfit programming.

ETA: also look at the expected responses. That's the reality of their culture

I'm currently orchestrating a merger between Crossfit and Scientology.

I didn't feel like reading the article, but I'm guessing she had something akin to rhabdo?

This is why I only compete on Broken Skull Ranch.

This defines Crossfit in a nutshell. It's a fricking circus of bizarre, testosterone laden "exercises" that are wrought with potential for injury.

I can't wait for the craze to fade away.

I love these slapfights. I don't take sides, but I will say my Lifetime Fitness gutted their 1/3 of the gym at the start of the year for crossfit stuff and that area is still going strong every night with people doing all kinds of crazy exercises. It's alive and well for now.

I agree. The Games were brutal this year. This does not change the fact that the program itself works. If you are the average crossfitter you are not doing 12 high intensity work outs in 5 days. This really is a non-issue for non-Games crossfitters.

crossfit is laughable, but this mostly proves that women should not be competing at elite fitness levels; their bodies are just not designed for that type of stress.

Read the article.

It does not find flaws in the exercises, but mainly the volume of exercises they were required to do.

They point out how the director used twitter to decide the next event happening 10 minutes after the voting. Thats ridiculous.

Good read.

This. I was watching and wondering how much more they could do to those athletes.

When I saw they brought in Murph I was shocked. And Murph is one of my favorite workouts. But to mix it in with a dozen or so other workouts in a 5-day period is insanity.

Not really.

Higher rates of injury is not a working program.

The failure of crossfit comes from the fact that you can't reinvent exercise. I have had more than one ortho surgeon tell me that it is not matter of if you will get hurt with crossfit but a matter of how bad. One of them has 2 mastercrafts one bought in 2010 and is named P90X and another one bought in 2013 and named it crossfit.
