Yes, back to talk a little bit about one of the more stupid things I have seen on the internet. Yes, that internet. The internet filled with tons of great factually correct information as well as the same internet that is overflowing with crap.

And man, I have found the houston, we have a problem of internet crap here.

Though I don't go to the website like minded mamas (a site likely that is all crap), but this crem dela crem of crap did in fact float to the top.

It has subsequently been taken down, after cries of child abuse were raised, but as many know things never truly disappear from the internet...

https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:2ryYl1xXQCYJ:likemindedmamas.com/natural-remedies-whooping-cough/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca

This is about how an ND which stand for either Naturopathic doctor or Not a Doctor treated her three kids who all were not vaccinated and got what she thought at first was a cold. Well, it wasn't a cold. All three sequentially got Whooping cough, named for the characteristic whoop when inhaling and gasping for air between coughs.

Read a bit of this nonsense. But before I quote let me say that each kid had this horrible condition between 120 and 150 days. Rather than get them vaccinated, she treated them with nothing that worked even going so far as giving them enemas, because god knows that cures whooping cough...

I will give a couple of quotes...

quote:

It all started when my six year old, Madilyn, developed a cough. No big deal. Nothing that I would ever find concerning. Nothing that a few natural health remedies and some serious cuddling couldn’t wipe out in a few days. I mean shoot, we had been doing things naturally for almost six years with nothing but success each and every time.

Well hell, there you go. You must be an expert.

Rather than quoting any single piece of this drivel, let me just post something from near the end...

quote:

It took a good 120-150 days from the start of the coughing for each of them to eliminate the bronchial damage and lung weakness caused by the bacterial infection, Pertussis. We spent hundreds of dollars on natural health products and consultations with various Naturopathic Professionals. It was a living HELL. Every day. It had an intense effect on my marriage and relationship with my husband. It caused me to question everything I knew about Natural Health.

We made it through using only natural remedies. My children developed REAL and TRUE immunity from being exposed to this bacteria and fighting it off naturally. It has been my biggest challenge to date as a mother.

Well, the home remedies did nothing. Time cured it. But the children could have lasting after effect of this infection.

A bit more...

quote:

I realize some of you might be thinking…“Holy wow, you are crazy or Heather – you’ve gone too far!”

I completely understand. I wondered that myself at times. I questioned my ability to parent. There were times I thought my husband was going to tell me times up, we are going in! Your thoughts and feelings are valid. Each set of parents must decide what is best for their kiddos. NO ONE ELSE can decide.

Uh, no. Parents that decide to pray for their kids and don't get treatment and they die is not the best thing for the kids. In fact, many parents have no idea what is best for their kids health. That is why they go to experts called pediatricians.

quote:

I just want you to ask yourself… How did people make it through for thousands of years? How did they get through the Spanish Influenza, the Black Plague, fevers and other ailments?

Yes, she actually did say this. You know how people made it through those things? Well many dealt with these maladies by dying. 30-60% of Europe may have died from the plague. And spanish Influenze killed millions much more recently.

So yes, I realize that this is another antivaxxer post. And hell, I realize that some of the people on here are antivaxxers.

If you have any thoughts on whether you want your kids to get whooping cough, watch some youtube videos of these coughs. While the mother was so concerned about the hell it was causing her because of lack of sleep and the such, she doesn't seem to be aware of how bad it was for each of her kids.

Vaccine yourselves and your kids. Don't be like this stupid mother... :banghead:

Actually I agree. He actually knew what the kids had before the mom didn't put his foot down. No doubt.

Not only is he a huge beta, but he is a bad dad.

Really? I don't think I've ever met an antivaxxer in real life, or at least it never gets brought up. If I did I don't think I would be able to control myself from telling them that their ideas are stupid.

Finding out that you married a woman who refuses proper medical treatment to your children is easily grounds for a divorce and custody battle. I guess it's easy for me to say in my currently unmarried/childless state, but I'm fairly confident that I wouldn't tolerate it.

No, it simply comes down to the person you are. Her husband is a wimp. He defers to her even when he knows she is wrong. Hell, her dad politely tried to get her to take them to the hospital and she seemingly almost lost it.

She not only is an antivaxxer, she is a bad mom, and she is legit crazy.

Just fyi, what whooping cough can look like

I understand the thought, and agree. However, she was reported and they deemed it not abuse nor neglect.

It seems as though the state gives you great leeway to intentionally hurt your children though your own acts of stupidity.

She's an idiot for saying this
quote:

My children developed REAL and TRUE immunity from being exposed to this bacteria and fighting it off naturally
you do not build up immunity to pertussis. I had it two years ago. It's the worst illness I've ever endured. When I went to the third Doctor, who finally diagnosed it, he recommended getting a booster shot so I didn't get it again

But she honestly didn't fail her kids by not taking them to the doctor for treatment because there is zero treatment. Antibiotics, steroids, prescription cough medicine, none of it does anything to cure it or provide any relief

So she's also stupid for saying natural remedies had any effect. They didn't. It has to run its course. I had it for 3 months then it went away

It is a bacterial infection and not a viral infection. In general, vaccines against bacterial infections are much shorter lived.

Even after infection, you may not have high titers to fight it off again.

This is one of the reasons you get boosters every 10 years.

quote:

But she honestly didn't fail her kids by not taking them to the doctor for treatment because there is zero treatment. Antibiotics, steroids, prescription cough medicine, none of it does anything to cure it or provide any relief

She failed her kids because
1. She didn't get her kids vaccinated.
2. After the first one was infected, she didn't get the others vaccinated.
3. She exposed other people to this illness.
4. She is a stupid crazy bitch.

quote:

Just be known it is worse for kids than adults and especially young kids who haven't been vaccinated.

And yes, she is ridiculous for saying those things had any effect.

Did you know that doctors used to recommend blood letting? Did you know that doctors thought that evil gods caused disease?
Did you know that doctors used to treat illnesses with spells and dances?

WTF does that have to do with the price of tea in china? Enemas have very limited use. Some of the weird ones are even dangerous.

But you probably didn't know that.

probably not

Wrong. I know more about the history of medicine than you know about driving.

She used a whole bunch of other useless things. Stunningly stupid things.

So, lets just get this on the record. Do you think the mother did the right thing. If you do, please, please, please tell us all why.

Just remember we are all entitled to our opinions, but facts are just that, facts. You can't make them up just because you want them to be true.
