College Humor/ Adam Ruins Everything Video
Eye opening. I had no idea one company owned pretty much every sunglass and eyeglass company.
Interesting watch, four minute video.

That's it. I'm throwing my glasses in the garbage and driving blind in protest of the Big Glasses industry.

Anyone bought from Zenni lately? They've been running a TV ad campaign, and I hope it doesn't mean the good times are over.

I always wondered how much the markup was on certain items. It goes to show that if a Yeti cup can be sold at walmart and ozark can still profit off 1/4 the margins that companies like Costa and Rayban are making a killing.

I spend more on the lenses than the glasses. I usually wear the Nike brand because of the way the arms lay and their resilience from me doing everything from dropping them to stepping on them.
Worth the $200 I spend on the frame.
Edit: Made by Marchon, US manufacturer (surely sourced overseas though)

I think 60 Minutes had a thing on these mafiosos a few years ago.

The one thing I didn't know is that they own eyemed.

Costas and Mauis are still family owned I believe.
The margins on Costas are absolutely absurd. That's where we make all of our money. We pay a very small amount on them, so i cant imagine how cheap they are to produce. Then they sell for $160-$220 lol

Sunglasses are just cheap hunks of metal and glass that are driven up in price by brand and marketing.

Why Engagement Rings Are a Scam
Thanks for that. Found this one, too.
Aren't there a few places online where you can get super cheap glasses?

Did you watch that video?
Those aren't companies. They're brands owned and operated by the same singular company.
A better analogy would be if Joe Smith Company owned Yeti, Ozark, and the 30 other cup companies as well as sports authority, Walmart, Academy, and Target and the factory where all of those are made and the credit card machine you use to buy them

I would remodel LensCrafters stores with my dad back in my younger days before I went to college. Store manager showed up huge clear garbage bags full of frames. This is how they would receive them to the stores. He stated they paid like .10 - .20 cents for a set of frames. Add the lens and they sold for $150 plus. The machine would cut the lens to script and someone would fasten them in. HUGE markup.
