In 2002 Carol Carr got a gun and shot her two adult sons to death as they lay in their beds. Then she calmly waited for the cops to come and arrest her.
At first you may think she is some kind of heartless killer but in fact her 2 sons were suffering greatly with Huntington's Disease (which their father had also died of).
James Scott, Carr's only remaining son, who also suffers from Huntington's, said his mother acted out of love, and not out of malice. Watching the boys suffer in agony for 20 years really took its toll on both him and his mother.
"I sat there and watched them with bed sores," he said. "It's just a miserable way to live. They couldn't talk. They couldn't communicate with each other. They would mumble." Both men died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
When questioned by police on the night of the shooting Carol Carr told them that she didn't want them to suffer anymore. The lead detective classified the murders as a "mercy killing." James Scott agreed. "She gave it her all taking care of them even while they were in a nursing home".
After serving 21 months, she was released on parole in 2004. The parole board mandated that if Carr's surviving son, James, should become ill with Huntington's disease, she will be prohibited from serving as his primary caregiver. Unfortunately, Carol's youngest son, James Scott, was diagnosed with Huntington's in 2005.

I know a guy (family friend of a friend) whose mother died. On the way to the funeral, his daughter was in a car accident and died. When his wife heard the news, she fainted and hit her head and died. Buried his mother and lost a daughter and his wife in one day.

Holy shite. Is he still alive himself? Seems like most would give up under similar circumstances

My coworker lost 3 of her 4 children to a tragic car accident last year that also killed her ex's mother and sister (and sister's unborn child). Her other child wasn't with them because it wasn't her family (she has a different dad). The only survivor was the guy driving(the grandfather). So that poor man lost his wife, daughter, and 4 of his grandchildren at once. Worst funeral I have ever attended.

I bought a wig for a beautiful 19 year old girl, (who was going to LSU for Engineering). She was upset about losing her hair while she was having chemo treatments, (she was only sick for about one year). She died before I was able to give it to her. Saddest time of my life...losing her.

Two local HS girls, 15 and 16 yrs old, were spending the night at one of their houses the night before Thanksgiving a few years back. They snuck out to go hang out with a boy one of them was crushing on.
On the way back driving down a long road at 2 or 3am Thanksgiving morning the 16 yr old fell asleep and crashed into a power pole. The car caught on fire.
The 15 yr old best friend/ passenger burned to death, while the 16 yr old driver lived but suffered severe burns over a large part of her body.
One of the first responders on the scene was a firefighter who was the father of the 16 yr old driver. He had no idea he was responding to his daughter and her best friends accident be thought they were safe at his house until he saw his daughters wrecked car and pulled her unconscious and badly burned body out of her car.

Beautiful young college girl had epilepsy, which everyone thinks is controlled. One day she takes a bath, ha a seizure, and drowns. Mom finds her.
Arrogant doctor marries pretty gal who wants nothing more than a child. After extensive infertility treatment, she manages to get pregnant. It's a difficult pregnancy, but she gives birth to a healthy boy.
For four years all is well. Then doc decides a four year old can handle a four wheeler. The kid flips it and drowns in a mud puddle. Mom goes insane for a while.

This happened in my home town... I don't know the back story, but the facts are as follows:
A guy tells his young wife that he forgot to get milk and went back to the store to pick it up and when he returned, he found his three children dead from gunshots and his wife laying dead near them from suicide... the neighbors found him in the middle of the cul-de-sac on his hands and knees weeping. VERY sad story for my community.
To this day, I don't know why she did it... obviously there was a lot going on in her marriage/life that wasn't public knowledge.

The gay thing is a little strange, but the drugs I can definitely understand. I'd have probably drank, popped, and snorted myself at least into the hospital after something that horrific. People that actually make it through shite like that and get it back together are the ultimate inspiration.

I know a guy whose wife and young daughter were both killed when their car was hit from behind by an 18-wheeler on I-10 a couple months ago. Traffic was stopped, but the 18-wheeler just kept going despite a good view of the road ahead. Both the mother and daughter were killed pretty much instantly. The night of the accident, the daughter who died was supposed to have had her pre-K graduation. The daughter was buried in her mother's arms in the same casket. Today (well, technically yesterday since it is now after midnight) would have been that little girl's birthday.
They left behind a loving husband and an older daughter, plus numerous family members. They were very much loved in the community. That funeral was the saddest thing I have ever seen.
