I've received three quotes. Two for annual spray treatment of the perimeter of the home and the piers. One for the bait system placed around the home in the ground. All are within the same price for installation and annual renewal.

Opinions on either method?

I wouldn't want to attract termites by baiting. Spraying would provide all the protection you will need.

I would think the spray would be best as that would kill the ones that fly in? The bait is only for the ones underground, but I know multiple people that had roof leaks that got termites from wet wood on their second story and their termite coverage didn't cover it.

if you change your own oil: pour the used oil around the piers. it is VERY effective. hydrocarbons and heavy metals do wonders things when used for bug removal

Hell, one can buy the same chemicals' the pro's use now. Cost about $100 per 1000sf coverage. If you have a 15 gallon spray tank with a pump, you good to go.

the spray and baiting systems are both for subterranean termites. Neither will prevent an aerial infestation. If aerial termites find a conducive spot on the house and begin a colony, they will make their way to the ground for a source of water. It is important to make sure conducive areas do not continue to hold water on the actual structure. Baiting systems do not actually attract termites to the source. Termites continuously forage for food regardless if they find a source or not so they usually find the baiting stations. Both methods are effective, but baiting systems can be more cost effective for pier structures depending on how many beams need to be drilled and treated. Also, in 5-7 years it will need to be resprayed so that is something to consider

you can buy termidor(taurs is cheaper) and do it yourself.

there are 2 types of spray. a repellent, and one that is bait that they bring back to their families to eat as well.the later is Taurus, and what you want.

The stuff last 10 years in the ground, and 6 months when sprayed topically.

The only reason to use a company is because they will pay for any damage

Get some termidor and treat it once every 30 years.

I would probably advise against treating a pier home yourself. You have trench and spray around each pier very well and a professional crew is going to be able to do that a lot more effectively and thoroughly than you can do it yourself.

Bait system is a scam. Look it up.
