Tell me about living in Mobile, AL....

Any of you live in Mobile and I mean in Mobile not over the bay in Daphane or Fairhope?
How is living downtown / midtown around Daphin St, Government and Oakleigh District?
I see it as no worse crime or school wise as living in New Orleans, but at least your only an hour from the beach.

I don't live there, but I like that area downtown. Sadly, there are a lot of homeless panhandlers around there.

There's some pretty hardcore biker gangs that run shite around there. Don't make eye contact with any of them and you should be fine.

Much better than West Mobile. It's Comparable to Mid City, Southdowns, Garden District in BR.

Overall though, it's not that bad. Traffic does suck on Airport/Schillinger and stay away from Pritchard. Downtown is really fun. It's been years since i've lived there but Soul Kitchen, Heros and other places are usually a good time. Many pretty young women in Mobile.

Dad was born and raised there, I still have kin down there and in Fairhope. I'm honestly really familiar with Mobile and Baldwin Counties, but contemplating living in Mobile vs. Fairhope.
I like the feel of downtown Mobile, plus my office will be downtown Mobile.
plus Mobile seems to be more LSU friendly.

Trash all over the roads... meth problem... shootings... crappy nightlife... wal-marts on every corner... traffic sucks.. AWFUL public school system... Spice epidemic... the place is a total dump. Crime is very bad there in Mobile.... ugly arse tattoos on everybody and the STD rate is through the roof.
One last thing.. lots of single parent women claiming to be a wonderful parent but takes the kids over to their grandparents to babysit so they can go out and do a weekend binge of meth and other popular drugs in the area.
Oh, and lots of white NWA wannabes throwin' up gang signs when there are no gangs in Mobile.
It's a dirty, filthy city with dirty and filthy residents. Even the decent looking girls in Mobile have dirty and stinky things under their underwear. Everybody is just so shady there.
