The wife and I are in a position to move in the next few months and were thinking about Denver, but we don't know anything about it.

Shes an attorney and I'm a CPA so I think our job prospects look pretty good. We have 2 kids, both under 2 years old. Will probably do the suburb thing so we can have a yard and all that, but I would love to find something within a 30 min drive to downtown with a few acres, if thats possible.

Our house price range would probably be $400k or so. What areas should we look? Kids would go to public school when that time comes and from what I see they are all pretty good. Would obviously prefer to live somewhere in an area with similarly aged families (we are in our early 30s).

Thoughts?

It is expensive.

Look at Boise or SLC.

They tend to have a mass shooting there every couple of years. I believe it's due to the area not being very religious. Also, you don't have to worry about the knee grows.

It's the capital of Colorado. Denver is also the most populous city in the state. It's nickname is the "Mile High City" as it's official elevation is 5,280'. It is located in the Mountain Time Zone.

Good luck with this.

You good go way out east and probably find something in this price range, but a morning commute will be 1 hour + with traffic.

I live on the edge of Denver metro, pretty much suburbs, and houses in my neighborhood are going for 750k and up (i'm poor and in an apartment)

I've loved living here but I'm excited to move, this place has gotten way to expensive.

You think Seattle is less expensive? My only experience is as a visitor to both, but from that they seemed about on par to me, if not things a bit pricier in Seattle.

Good luck. That place is sprawled out, or was the last time I was there several years ago. I would think finding that much land, in your price range, would be impossible without getting an hour away from downtown. Even then it would probably take 2x the amount you listed to get a place like that.

Iirc the airport was even 30-45 mins from downtown.

But it has been several years since I've been there, so maybe I'm remembering incorrectly.

This will be an issue. The housing market is insane there but it is a great place to live and raise a family especially if you like mountain sports and weed.

Look at Vegas. Growing city, close to southern Cali, mountains, etc. the sport scene is about to take a major upgrade.

This is what I remember from my visit. I went there in work and there was no getting a taxi from the hotel to the office. I did a lot of driving that week, compared to most other places.

same here. I had a heck of an offer to move my family there last year but I had to turn it down. My 300K house here would probably be 750K in Denver. The area is awesome and I'd love to live there one day but it is just growing too much too fast for me. Look at Zillow, some houses have appreciated over 200K in less than a year. Knowing what I know now, I should have moved there right out of college.

No, Denver is cheaper but not by much. I turned down this job in December.
