tech board question: reguarding smart tv using apps and whatnot..

so i just bought a 100 ft internet cable and i decided to hook that up to my tv to see if it was just the wifi signal the tv wasnt receiving..i have come across a few things so far that im trying to figure out..it can connect on somethings like netflix but then will disconnect sometimes..i try to do network diagnostics and it says DNS resolution test:failed..then i try test network connection and says network is not working properly..then i try a network speed test and says my connection averaged 0.0 mb/second..
then i go to change network settings (not really knowing what im doing, just looking to see if i can find something that seems out of place) it says something about a dhcp with options of get automatically from a dhcp server (typical) or specify static ip address..

my question is what is DNS and DHCP and how can i fix this..this is with the internet cable connected to the tv..

i was looking at my router admin page and the ddns is disabled..only two other options are dyndns.org and tzo.com..i have no clue what that is for and also on my router admin page the DHCP server is enabled..can you help me out..

i know i know....tl;dr..sorry

I read all of that and I have no idea what any of that means. Makes me second guess buying a smart tv in the future.

DHCP is how a device gets an IP address from your router. DHCP enabled means the device will be given an IP address by the router, instead of you assigning one to it yourself.

DNS is ....I can't explain it. Without it, your device will have internet connection, but will not be able to go to any sites. You want that set to obtain automatically.

Overall, I'd say see if you can update the TV's software. If that doesn't work, shoot it with a 12 gauge and see if that works.

A Domain Name server is operated by your provider to translate the domain name, e.g., tigerdroppings.com, into a numeric ip address which can be understood by the networking equipment that comprises the internet. It is stored as an ip address in your router, usually with an address for a backup server.

I've tried several things with my LG and for some reason it just doesn't do streaming via apps very well and this is over a wired connection. The media renderer works great for DLNA/UPnP streaming but the apps and support of apps is extremely lacking. I'm not missing out though cause the tv has a ps3 connected to it.
