Would you be able to do their job? Are they underpaid? What (if anything) should change?

See, I sympathize with the fact that it's a shitty job.

But, they chose their path in life.

You don't have to be very skilled to be public school teacher however. I could easily walk 5 days in their shoes, it would just be annoying as hell.

Being a kid who was in high school not long ago, teachers would put on a PowerPoint. Give a test and then submit the grades. Many teachers could be replaced with computer programs. But the human aspect of teaching is important. Just not so important they should get 6 figures.

When I was in school, the teachers that really struggled in the classrooms were the weak ones who didn't command any respect from the students. I feel like most legislators would excel at that.

Hey teachers: Stop Using teaching as an Excuse For Special Treatment

It's an honor to serve your country, and you get paid damn well for it.

Stop using it as an excuse for fricking handouts and praise.

Are there any professions that bitch as much as teachers and nurses?

You'd almost think they were dominated by women or something.

I'm a teacher, do I think I should be paid more, maybe a little, but it is the path I chose. Having said that i absolutely love my job and there is nothing else I would rather be doing.
Other teachers whining about their jobs always piss me of .

You wouldn't stay for 5 periods in most Caddo schools much less 5 days.

I'm not saying that I could get a bunch of the terrible little fricks to pay attention and learn...but I'm not intimidated by a classroom full of 'urban' and 'cultured' students.

Probsbly a silly thing to post because I imagine some legislators were teachers before they ran for office.

No. People making decisions about education are politicians, not educators. But they are really proficient about political posturing.
