Nope, not worth it anymore. Time to start shopping local and support the local businesses who employ people that likely support your business.

If you can't find a way to make Amazon Prime worth it even with sales taxes included, then you're doing something wrong.

Umm, there are more than a few competitors with quick delivery, no taxes, AND no yearly fee ( did you forget that last part?). Not to mention companies like Wal Mart opening up 2-day delivery.

Definitely not the slam dunk it once was.

I buy from Amazon at least once a week. I haven't been charged tax, Louisiana Resident.

Like a previous poster said, 3rd party sellers may or may not charge tax.

And how many of those offer included music streaming, video streaming, cloud photo storage, and other perks on top of the 2 day shipping? If you're only using Prime for the free 2 day shipping, I agree it's probably not worth it. But it's still a great deal if you utilize at least some of the included extras.

I'm calling bullshite if the shipping address is in the state of Louisiana. Whether or not you paid enough attention to notice is a different story. It doesn't show you the estimated tax until checkout when you select where it's going. Go back and look at the order details since the beginning of the year and you should see the tax on each one.

EDIT: Each one that Amazon handles, that is. As others said, third parties are a crapshoot.

Look for 3rd party sellers. Many are Prime eligible and most still do not charge sales tax. Anything shipped directly from Amazon will be taxed.

This. I just reviewed my orders for the last month or so, and the ones that had tax added to them all said "Sold by Amazon.com LLC". The ones with no tax added were all from 3rd party sellers and said "Sold by ________ (not Amazon), but were still available through Prime. I'm in Louisiana FWIW.

Just the other day, I was a click away from buying some running shoes off of Amazon. After a couple minutes of searching, I found the same shoes on a tax-free website that delivered in 4-5 days. Those couple of minutes saved me roughly $10. Is $10 a big deal... of course not. But you know that saying about people going broke one penny at a time.

So I am a frequent user of Amazon and pay for Prime primarily because of the free shipping and no tax which can add up to a lot of savings even with the annual fee. The last couple of months I have noticed many of my items are now being taxed. Now I know technically you are supposed to owe the taxes anyway yada yada yada. Just wondering what has changed to make taxing common now? I am thinking it might not be worth it anymore.

When I first started buy most of my shite online I was using ebay, then I transitioned to mostly Amz, now I'm starting to go back to ebay.

Can't say for sure if ebay will remain tax-free but it seems like it would be hard enforce considering the plethora of sellers.

In addition to buying from third parties, who do not have the tax rule from Amazon enforced, you can download an app such as Wiki Buy or Honey that will automatically tell you if the price you are getting is the best price. I use the Chrome extensions, but I am sure they probably have extensions for other browsers or mobile apps.

To be clear, I don't think the state forced Amazon to do this, but they saw the writing on the wall with the legislation that was passed (someone correct me if I am wrong). Other online realtors may or may not charge tax at this time, but most likely will be forced to in the future.

I went back and looked. None so far have been "sold by Amazon" as another poster mentioned. I'll make sure to stay away from that when purchasing in the future, I've lucked put so far this year.
