My family only buys Louisiana-based crawfish tails. However, I moved out-of-state and cannot find any in my city.

I thought of making crawfish etouffee tonight for some company but can only get my hands on Chinese-based crawfish tails.

Barring all else (price, loyalty to Louisiana, etc.), how do Chinese crawfish tails taste? If not half-way decent I will just make something else.

P.S. I know this generally has been discussed in other forums but the conversation usually turns on Louisiana loyalty and price and so on. I just want to know about taste.

They taste the same. Usually just a little smaller.

The taste is notably worse but it's not a huge difference like size is.

also, food board.

They taste the same, they're just a little better at math.

I've heard they're the same except they go sideways instead of up and down.

Its a noticeable difference if you're used to Louisiana crawfish.

Not terrible but I definitely prefer LA.

Like the others said, they're smaller too.

What about ordering some, and have them shipped in dry ice?

I'm in the same boat as you, so we tried making etouffee with Boudreaux's (Chinese) tails. We noticed a big difference. The Chinese ones don't have as much fat (yellow gunk) that is needed to enhance the flavor in my opinion.

Not as good but they'll work ok...That's what you get in most places that serve crawfish etouffee....Some nasty horror stories though about the farming of Chinese crawfish.

I eat shrimp for taste and meals that I want to enjoy.

I eat crawfish for the experience.

If it weren't for Mobile, Alabama would be Mississippi, but with better football.
