LINK from a year ago

quote:

Employment in the Tampa metropolitan area has grown by 24 percent since December 2009, making it the fourth-fastest growing job market in the nation and the best in Florida over that period

I spent a week there about a year back for the first time since before Katrina and I really enjoyed myself. Always felt Tampa was overlooked when it came to the SE. Is the projections for the area economy still hot?

I've lived in FL before but never moved off the panhandle. Being close to the western gulf beach is a major plus.

I moved down to Tampa 2 years ago and I love it here. I work in the IT / software sector and there was good opportunity for me career wise.

I read a couple months ago that some VC is going to be investing a ton in new start up tech companies in Tampa in the coming years. They are developing a ton downtown currently, not sure what the split is between residental or commercial.

Overall its a good quality of life. Depending on what neighborhood you live in there is minimal to zero crime. Transplants from everywhere so its an unique culture vibe.

Gulf fishing.
Great beaches.
Good craft beer scene.
Golf courses everywhere.
Good bar/restaurant districts

Awful traffic - they say its because Tampa grew too much too fast. Thats the only bad thing I can think of.

i lived in siesta keys / venice florida for a while man i had some wild fricking times down there. siesta keys beach is GOAT beach.

one of the most fond memories of my life is being on a date with this chick on a sunday night listening to this fusion latin band watching the sun set at the back of sparkys which is right on the ocean. just one of those things that sticks with you.

oh and the girls down there are thirsty AF. oine of the only places where hot women would consistently apparoach you.

if they had half decent horse racing (frick tampa bay downs) year rould i would have stayed

In most cities traffic can be avoided by living close to where you work. People that complain about traffic buy a house 40 miles from thier office then wonder why it's takes a long time to get there

The BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) is always a good place to look at when trying to get an idea of how well a city is doing. Here are the BLS reports for Tampa/St. Pete, NOLA, BR, and Austin for reference points. In all, it looks like Tampa is doing well.

NOLA
Baton Rouge
Austin

I'm not the biggest fan of Dallas, but it's certainly not "boring". It might not have the things that you like to do, but there are plenty of things in Dallas to keep one occupied.
