And convinced the higher ups to allow him to fly and fight again.

Aurora was faster than both...

And what we're flying now is not even fair.

Has it ever been proven to exist?

The SR-71 has always been my favorite airplane. The B2 is 2nd. The SR-71 is technological beauty.

Proven to whom? Just because something isn't proven to the public at large, doesn't mean it isn't/wasn't there.

It flew from the early 80s to roughly '94...

They only flew the blackbird at that time as a cover for the Aurora...

I am not doubting just asking if it has ever been revealed.

Its crazy to think of how long ago the SR-71 was developed. How far technology has advanced in that time till today and consider if we have advanced that same distance in aviation. What do they have now? It's beyond any of our imagination.

It's annoying as frick when a person can't just admit that they are wrong. "shite, I didn't know that" is a lot easier than coming up with the three lame arse excuses you used to make you more right.

I got to spend about 20 minutes talking one on one with an old retired skunk works engineer at the Udvar Hazy Smithsonian Air and Space Annex a few years back. One of the most memorable conversations of my life.

He told a story that one of the first times they showed the plane off to VIPs, they had just completed a flight and the exterior of the plane was scorching hot. When it pulled into the hanger it set off the fire system and soaked the VIPS.
He also had a slide rule app on his Ipad and explained how they did the math. It was basically build something, then have a test pilot fly it. what amazed me the most was how much faster planes went from pen to production back then.

Here's a link to Brian Shul speaking for a little over an hour to the staff at Lawrence Livermore.

Hmmm.....current POTUS don't like his pilots being captured or shot down - Yeager would be on his shite list.....5 heel spurs escaping Nam is the type stud we need.

I'm not sure if there really is that many degrees of separation between what we can pull off and what is pubically known.

It's not a question of technology, but national and political will.

Back then you had massive pressure and fear regarding our capabilities vs the Russians. Necessity is the mother of invention, and our developments post Cold War have been rather evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Capabilities have been down sized and downsized. Congress isn't a blank check anymore for defense.

On top of all that, you have Joe Blows with smartphones ready to upload to the Internet everywhere as opposed to if an isolated eyewitness saw something, there was no realistic way to document and share it.

What's secret are the precise capabilities of our units. It's why they were reluctant to even let the F-22 fly out of US airspace for a very long time: they didn't want hostiles to start building a profile of the radar returns.

I don't believe we have the equivalent to the F-117 that we can roll out like in the First Gulf War that will literally rewrite the script of all modern warfare once unveiled hidden in Skunkworks or their equivalents.

I mean shite, forget black projects, we don't even have the best MBTs anymore, and we are still running a ~50 year old design. And as far as I know, there isn't a major project to replace them, expecting a service life with upgrades of another 30 years. Why? Because no one really sees the need for them anymore. They are "good enough." There isn't the pressure of an adversity to push for improvements and resources to deploy them.
