I don't understand why anyone would want one of those trash dogs.

No way I would want my kid or dog alone with one of those things.

Blah blah blah.. Don't hate the breed, hate the owner.. Rinse and repeat.

People like pitbulls because people are garbage. It's a fairly good indicator of people I don't want to hang out with.

You sure have been awfully slow to pick up on the fact that I'm giving people a hard time and not being serious in anyway.

I'm sure there's a fight at the dog park every damn day and that's OK. Dogs are there to socialize and getting into brief fights is how dogs learn that they have crossed the line in dog etiquette.

If they can't control their dog, maybe they're the bitch.

Since I've been been in Arkansas, my pit has gotten attacked by other dogs twice, which has never happened to her. The last time, she cowered and tried to get away for about 10 seconds (I couldn't get a a hold on the other dogs collar, and that owner wasn't anywhere around to help). Finally, the other dog bite my pitbull's ear so hard, blood started gushing, and she finally defended herself. Luckily, I got both dogs separated. I hated that she fought back, but I couldn't blame her when I saw the blood. She tried her best to submit and avoid confrontation.

I have always punished the hell out of my dog at any sign of animal aggression or dominating behavior. It's worked great. Never once have I ever had any problems with people. But that's because I took the time to make sure she's never afraid of unexpected human behaviors. She's been to more Nola area festivals than many people who were raised there.

Training and socialization are key for any dog. With pitbulls, there can be natural animal aggression. Human aggression typically only occurs due to bad socialization, poor owners, or inbreeding. It's weird being in a place where people talk about buying dogs. In Nola or Colorado, everyone I knew that had a dog, got it from a shelter or rescue organization.

People, like me, saw shelters that were filled with a vast majority of pits, and were willing to take a chance on them. People who buy pitbulls from breeders, are generally scumbags. Not all, but most I've met are. And they raise them wrong. They try to make them guard dogs, when they don't have natural dog instincts. That wasn't their job when they were originally breed in America. So doing that, they often are vicious and unpredictable, as almost any dog would be if they were raised by those type of shitheads.

I've been bringing my dog to work everyday. A few there, like many people and friends I've had, have told me that their opinions about pitbulls have changed after getting to know her. Which is something I said I wanted when I adopted her. Definitely one of the most affectionate and loving dogs I've ever been around. And it didn't hurt that she's a pretty bitch.

Pitbull owners would swear a pitbull is the best dog ever as one was biting their arm off. I watched a very sweet and social pitbull bite half of my 5 year old cousins face off.

Was it one of the dog parks in Baton Rouge? If so, which one?

This is a big problem. Most guard dog breeds come from the herding dogs, whose instinct to protect the flock morphs well into the guard dog role.

My dogs have been attacked aggressively twice. Once in a park and once in the dog park, both times by pitbulls.

Interesting anecdote. My danes have been attacked by german sheppherds, chihuahuas, golden retrievers, and an american bulldog. What bothers me is when people take anecdotes or news stories about pitties and try to make the case that the entire breed is dangerous and should be eliminated.

Lots of trashy people and irresponsible dog owners have pitties. Therefore many dangerous dogs exist and sometimes get out of enclosures. Ban pitties and the trashy people will instead seek out other powerful breeds like wolf hybrids, dobermans, malamute, etc. Maybe owners of certain breeds should be forced to take a class, just like hunter education. But unfortunately two things are not going away anytime soon - ignorant trashy people and their poorly-trained and therefore dangerous dogs.

This thread is so full of great information.

I saw a golden retriever shite at a dog park the other day. It bothered me because that dog's shite was so much bigger than that of any other dog. And the dog walked off like it was no big deal. The nerve!

I wish shelters would euthanize pits. Im sorry, your pit is probably nice and well trained but these are the worst breed of dogs.

They are ugly and generally ill tempered unless they have an owner that trains them not to be...still they can snap and harm other dogs and children.

Most of the time(obviously there are exceptions) pit owners are trashy, inconsiderate people
