2011, 71k miles $3,500

What the??

First message from seller:

quote:

Hi, the car is still available for $3500. If you are interested please contact me at *******@gmail.com and I will send you more details.

I contacted then got this gem:

quote:

Hello, This 2011 Acura Mdx runs and drives excellent. It has been extremely well maintained with a full service history, Only 71,400 miles! 3.5L engine, 6 cylinders and 4x4 with transmission Automatic shifts smoothly. It has no leaks no drips and does not smoke at all, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions with a clear title free of encumbrances and liens. I bought it when i was serving in Fort Dearborn in Chicago IL and now I am deployed in Alaska. The car will be delivered from Chicago, Illinois don't worry about the shipping because is free. I have dropped my price to $3,500 (purchase price) since this is an Urgent Sale! and I need to sell it before June 5th, when I will be deployed in Afghanistan with my platoon replacing the troops scheduled to come home. The financial part will be managed by Amazon, which means that you will have a 5 days inspection period before committing to buy the car. In this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. If you want to complete the purchase please send me your: full name, full shipping address and your phone number so i can notify Amazon that you are selected as my buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure. Again I want to point out that because I am going to Afghanistan this sale is my top priority and I am looking after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible. Here is a link with a photo album of the car. Hope to hear from you soon!

My reply:

quote:

A 2011 Acura with 71k miles would never go for $3,500. Why am I to believe this is a legit offer?

Their reply:

quote:

All that I want is to make a good deal. I am a honest person and I don't risk my career and my freedom for any amount of money. I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% LEGIT because Amazon is responsible for security of this deal.

Hmmmmm..... what to do

Seller is a US soldier. You think he's lying? You don't trust our soldiers?

Why do you hate America?

Just replied with this.

If it is a scam I wonder how it would work. I don't know how protections work through Amazon and to what amount. One would think that would provide some security.

Eta: according to blue book the car's value should be about $20k. I'm not sure how good of a source that is. I am genuinely curious how this particular scam would work.

These scams always crack me up... See it on craigslist daily. What's sad is the number of folks they rob I imagine.

Red flag #174: It's in Chicago yet he doesn't post it on the Chicago site?

All he wants to do is make sure you, the guy he has never met, gets a good deal...even if it means he is losing thousands of dollars.

Personally, I would stop all contact and keep a daily monitor on my credit. Unless you used an email that can in no way be linked to your true identity.
