I've had tinnitus for years but it has gotten progressively worse in the past year. I can't filter any background noise out.

Guess I need to go see someone.... any suggestions?

Trust me it is, I've had tinnitus for 30yrs. They keep telling me that they can mask the ring with hearing aids while improve my hearing. Just don't know if I'm ready to be called a old deaf frick at 48.

My wife is an concierge audiologist, she will go to your office or house and do the testing if you're in the Lafayette or Baton Rouge area.

I am an audiologist & specialize in tinnitus mgmt. I have a pretty large network of auds & can help you find someone with the tinnitus knowledge you need in the area you're at. Not all audiologists know how to treat tinnitus, so keep that in mind.

Northern Virginia please.

And thank you.

ETA: I got sick in February and the ringing began right after I got better. Now it's constant.

I'll have to brainstorm & get back to you. Are you a veteran?

It sucks. I've had it for quite a while, but it's never been a problem until lately. I don't know if it's gotten worse or I'm just noticing it much more now. Hell, it kept me from going to sleep a few nights ago.

Oddly enough, taking a shower totally kills it. I have about 2 minutes of peace after a shower before it starts coming back. It's also the same frequency as crickets. I can go outside and it's unnoticeable.

I don't have tinnitus per se, but I've had an inner ear condition for almost 20 yrs now.. what it is , is i hear a loud, audible pop (like most people would hear on an airplane) in my left ear every time i swallow.. some days, it's barely noticeable.. but some days it sounds like machine gun fire and is almost debilitating.. i've been to several specialists over the year who think it's something called Patulous Eustachian Tube (PET) and that there's no cure.. do you have any experience treating anything like this Cleopatra , or has anyone here experienced this?

I have that in both of my ears when I swallow. Oddly enough, I thought that was normal until fairly recently. I don't remember a time I didn't hear the pop with a swallow. Mine does not sound as extreme as yours; I am never debilitated by it. Treatment for middle ear disorders is outside of my scope of practice- I have no idea if/what your treatment options would be, sorry!

I dated one for a while. She is actually in BR, but I probably wouldn't recommend her... sorry

That's ok, thanks anyway, it seems to be pretty rare.. but there are some great support groups online, and I've learned to manage it a lot better over the years!
