While I don't think adults banging 16 year olds is anything other than fairly disgusting behavior, I really don't know how you figure there is all that much difference between a 16 and 18 year old in terms of emotional maturity. As someone who teaches junior and senior high school students in the 16-18 range yearly, I find the difference between these ranges to be fairly minimal.

For the record, I remember hitting on 16 yr old girls in high school, but I have a 16 yr old son now, and 16-18 yr old girls are WAY the frick off limits these days.

Well, I guess Jared should have got him an 18 year old. His wife wouldn't be pleased, but at least he'd be kosher with the Feds.

The problem with 16 being the age of consent is not the 16 bit, its the age delta. A fully formed empotional adults can manipulate the shite out of a 16 year old, and then its not really consent. The age gap matters.
This would be true with say a 40 year old and a 21 year old. The 40 year old would be able to easily manipulate the 21 year old. Consent is a strange thing, and best o err on the side of caution. And that side of caution is not having sex with a 16 year old, unless you are also 16 (or 17 or 15).
