Strange "boom" noises uptown NOLA

Anyone have any idea what these noises can be. I live in Audubon and started noticing them a few weeks back before Xmas and have been hearing them since as late as last nigh. They don't sound like gun shots but more like really powerful fireworks, if that makes sense. Uptown Messenger had a write up about them a few days ago and apparently it's not gun shots nor do the S&w board know anything.

Neighborhoods including West Riverside, Audubon, Carrolton and Black Pearl have been curious about these noises per Nextdoor app.

I live in the area, but I haven't heard anything like that.

Same thing in BR last week.

Probably the container ships in the river loading and unloading. Was in Winn-Dixie on Tchoup one night and one of the containers took a rough landing and I though the freezer section exploded.

Its leftover fire works from NYE. Ol ladies on Nextdoor app been getting worked up over it too. Yall should link up and start a neighborhood watch.
If your still hearing the booms in another month or two than that is definitely ak47 rounds.

weird that the police, fire dept, etc.... are out looking for this and no one knows what it is. youd think even if testing exercises they would need to inform the local authorities... you know, since we are short staffed and dont need resources going towards an unneeded investigation.

Yes. I started a thread about this a few weeks ago. It's very strange. Uptown Messenger ran an article a few days ago about it.

I've heard them and wondered what they are. I assumed it was transformers blowing. If not, it's a mystery.
It makes you wonder about nefarious possibilities. If a Timothy McVeigh type guy or crazed Muslim terrorist was setting off small controlled explosions somewhere underground, would we be able to identify what and where they are? Or would we all collectively shrug and assume someone else was looking into it.

I live off of Esplanade and I've heard them before. I told my wife sounds like someone is shooting artillery off somewhere. It'll go on for a few minutes and EVERY SINGLE TIME when I go outside to listen I can't hear it. The first time it happened the guy that lives behind me came outside at the same time. He said, "who is shooting artillery off in New Orleans"?
It sounds exactly like distant artillery and I have no idea what it is.

Filming movie or TV show scenes, especially on the other side of Tchoupitoulas behind the wall?
