scientist like to try things would be my best guess. Most people don't know what the GFS is, that it goes 16 days into the future, etc.
edit: the hurricane the GFS is predicting has a forcast cone from basically the middle of the atlantic to the LA texas border. There is no way that a 16 day forcast will be accurate, but the current wave coming off Africa will be one to watch.

Deepwater VK915 here. We got non essentials off Friday and getting essentials off tomorrow. Not sure who yall fly, but PHI gave us until tomorrow/Tuesday morning then they were shutting flights down. I'm the logistics coordinator on my platform. I don't see too many flights after Tuesday.

The LLC is either almost a naked swirl at this point or it might be almost on the coast of Cuba but just so hard to tell at night. Near the coast of Cuba would line up with the CIMSS 850vort analysis. This would put it on the SW edge of the guidance spread.
