Hey guys. I was looking up jobs related to resources. I noticed that the NUCOR steel plant in Convent LA shut down about 2 years ago.

Is the steel industry suffering now ? Is the drop of steel mill jobs similar to that of Oil operators out of work?

As an aside, what happens to all the PETE and ChemE grads working in oil field operations or are they unaffected?

Same as In any industry going through tough times..most still have jobs but a lot got laid off. But if you are graduating now it's very difficult, almost impossible to get a PETE job.

Steel Mill reopens AFTER a closure

Okay. Sorry I was reading an article from last year. However they did shut down for awhile. Plus, there are not man new job openings in the LA area and only a few in Texas

Ironically although steel manufacturing may be down, civil/structural work is doing quite well. American engineers, Chinese steel .

They were already in a planned outage. They didn't shut down. I know what the article says but it isn't true

Nucor didn't shut down.

2 years ago it was starting up and did go down for some major improvements which it to be expected at a brand new facility of that scale.

I was out there for a while. Great place to work if you like to work hard.

You love looking for jobs more than actually working at a job. I got a feeling you will get fired within a year once you start working.

Tubular operations were already suffering before the oil market crash because the Chinese were flooding the market. US Steel shutdown several plants over the past couple of years. The oil crash only made things worse.

Everything is suffering now. 1% GDP growth doesn't create enough jobs to sustain America.

thanks Obama
