KLTV) - A teenage driver has been cited in a crash that killed five of his family members.

Louisiana State Police spokesman Michael Reichardt told the Associated Press 16-year-old Andrew Hardman, was cited with careless operation of a vehicle. The misdemeanor charge is for a traffic citation which police say they write when warranted at vehicle wrecks.
Eight people were in the car at the time of the wreck and six were ejected from the vehicle. None of the ejected passengers were wearing a seatbelt. Two of the passengers were released to a family member. The third remains in a Shreveport hospital in critical but stable condition.

The group was traveling from Texas to Walt Disney World in Florida for a family vacation, but a little more than three hours after the family departed for the trip, their SUV veered off the road and rolled over, killing five people.

The 16 year old boy fell asleep at the wheel, terrible tragedy that killed his parents and two siblings.

Yes, no one here has heard about this horrible accident. Or about the ticketing of the driver

He fell asleep while driving. That's pretty careless. What's the problem?

Sad story. Can't imagine why they'd let a 16 year old drive in that situation.

And duck...

No seat belt worn by any (former) occupant....

Really people?

The citation is in poor taste.

I'd say falling asleep and being responsible for killing five people is pretty careless.

Oh well let's tear the ticket up then... don't want anyone's feelings getting hurt.

The only thing that I say is that some agencies require a ticket to be written in cases like this.
I would have a hard time writing this ticket. This kid has suffered enough loss

Stannix, you should keep your day job and refrain from any news updates on the OT. Have a g'day.

It is the driver's responsibility to maintain that all his passengers are properly secured in the vehicle. It sounds like 6 were not. That is the law, and the fact that 5 of them died gives pretty good justification for that law.
