They overbuild, usually with substandard materials, then walk away, often declaring bankruptcy to get out of their obligations.

I'd imagine cattle processing isn't that great of a job.

States have enacted new home warranty acts but yeah it doesn't stop some of them from trying to screw you over.

Is this a case of the small percentage making the rest look bad?

It's been a pretty sweet business for me.

If Tommy Spinosa is mentioned in this conversation then no.
He really screwed some people with that Perkins Rowe deal. The worst part is that he knew what he was going to pull from the start and manipulated everything to make it work.

I'd say it was a case of the majority making the small percentage of ethical ones look bad.

You don't have a clue about what you're talking about.

Lawyers. Have some slimy frickers in the law field. The worst is when they upgrade to corrupt politician

Government employees. Teachers, clerks, politicians...frick 'em.

In Louisiana, most questionable RE developers are related to or use realtors that are closely related to state legislators.

Since you don't know the difference between a developer and a builder, I'm gonna declare your uninformed arguments as invalid

Well we've found a couple of real estate guys in this thread

There are contractors who frick people over.. After hurricane Gustav I needed roof work done and a new front door installs plus a few other minor fixes. I hired a contractor who was known to be really good, but when the storm hit, he took as many jobs as possible, he didn't tell anyone "no".
Without going into detail, he didn't completely finish the job on my house (luckily it wasn't anything major), but in the end.. He was in the process of building several houses before the storm, but he ended up leaving those people with a lien on their house, he screwed up a lot of other jobs, etc. He hired a bunch of mexican guys and would just drop them off at different job sites and he just turned it into one complete cluster frick. One hardware store stopped him from charging there because he wasn't paying on his account so he had to go to another one, which he quickly did the same thing there.
I use to hear all kinds of contractor stories when I worked in a building inspection & permit department, but it seems like contractors are either really good or they suck.. No in between.
