I tend to apologize immediately and actually over-apologize in the process. I doubt I'll ever be haunted by not apologizing.

I tried to apologize to a long term gf for cheating on her probably 7 years ago. To this day, she still won't accept it. That'll haunt me forever

Probably. I don't lose sleep over it though. I've learned that there are really very few people who care about your feelings. So I'm going to do what I want and if you're offended or whatever then it is what it is.
