I've got a 52" ExMark that is eight years old and is basically done. I mow 4 acres and am looking to replace this machine, but am not sold on the idea of getting another ExMark. Suggestions (with links would be nice).

That's a fair amount to mow. You may be able to justify a commercial model or at least the commercial deck.

Gravely, Dixie chopper, Scag are a few good brands.

I would definitely get one with an engine upgrade IE better than Briggs.

Let us know what you get.

I wouldn't call mowing 4 acres a residential sized job.

I'd stick with the commercial level on the major brands (ex-mark, gravely, scag, kubota). I've mowed with gravely, scag, and ex-mark. Ex-mark is consistently the better mower IMO.

I have a Hustler Raptor heavy duty, 54". Bought from Pro Power, April 2014. Yard is approx. 1 acre. Its been okay. Its been in the shop twice. Once for blade engage switch and once for throwing a belt. Both warranty work and was fixed the next day.

Cuts well but clipping can get thick with side discharge. Usually have to go over a second time to get the results I want. I wish I had the mulching kit, will buy soon.

By no means am I endorsing John Deere as the best, in fact they are not but I do have one and I've been using it for 6 years running and I cut almost 2 acres every week. Besides replacing the deck belt a little more than I expected it has worked fine for the $4K price versus $8K for ExMark.

I mow a lot of grass. I bought one of these Husqvarna MZT61 two years ago and really like it....commercial grade, 61 inch cut, 10mph, 3 year warranty and less than 6 grand. (I paid $5500 for mine out the door)

Never thought I would actually look forward to mowing

I bought a Toro Z master (commercial) about 10 years ago for mowing my 4 acres. The only time it goes in the shop is for regular maintenance. I'll buy another when this one goes.

I also mow 4 acres, and I've learned from experience with a yard that size if you want the mower to last go with a commercial mower. I purchased a Toro Z Master Commercial 3000 two seasons ago and it was the best decision I ever made. It's heavy duty, the mower is easy to clean after cutting and the commercial Kawasaki FX651V engine is a beast! I added the isolation mount and the suspension seat as options because I have a bad back. I also added the flat free front tires, it makes the ride a little stiff but I never have to worry about a flat tire when I'm ready to mow. I went with the 48 inch deck because I have a lot of trees. Best Zero Turn I've ever owned!

LoL Bad Boy mowers are trash

1. Scag
2. Huster & Exmark
3. Grasshopper
4. Gravely

Everything else

Kubota makes good ZTRs but they're expensive and mostly you're paying for the name. Hustler has consistently been rated the best for the money. Dixie Chopper isn't what it once was either.

Exmark Laser E series has the upscale seat this year.

Biggest seller for me is the discharging of grass when you can't cut it regularly. Ive tried them all, if you have to skip a week due to weather conditions, Ex throws it out better than the others.

BTW, Bad Boy is garbage. Horrible parts delivery.

I know everyone down plays Cub Cadet, but I have had mine 5 years now. Mow 5 acres every week, 145 trees I go around. As long as I treat it well it has been great. Did not buy it out of a box store however. (and that does make a difference i have been told).
