Anyone with experience in Orleans Parish with speeding tickets (radar-clocked, NOT a camera ticket)? What is the process to go to court and somehow get them to not list it on insurance?

Some years ago in Jefferson Parish I agreed to go to traffic school one night and I wasn't docked on my insurance.

Thanks in advance!

Call the DA. They will tell you what you need to know.

Do their camera speeding tickets have any teeth yet?

Enter a guilty plea under Article 893 or 894. Went to court today and most people use that to pay the fine and not go on your insurance record.

You used your 893/894 for a speeding ticket? That probably wasn't necessary.

How fast were you going to get NOPD to notice you and pull you over? I've seen some people do crazy driving stuff right I front on NOPD and they've never been pulled over. They usually don't care about traffic other than the month leading up to mardi gras.

893 is for felonies.

Go to court early, speak to the city attorney, and ask for a non moving. They just want money and don't really care what kind of ticket you plead to.

Or pay a local lawyer $150 or so and it'll most likely get tossed.

I was in court for three hours today and 90% of people plead 894 because the DA said you can plea to that or fight the ticket. If you plea to 894 you are found guilty, but does not go on your record for insurance. If you fight it and loose it will go on your record.

Absolutely do not waste an 894 on a traffic ticket. Plead not guilty, they'll line everyone up in the hall behind the courtroom and let the City Attorney talk to you. Be straight up with them, tell them you're trying to keep it off your insurance, and they'll likely change it to a non-moving unless you have a problem filled history.

Go meet with the DA on your court date and he will likely offer to change the offense to a non moving violation if you pld guilty. You can also get just about any lawyer to have the ticket dropped alltogether if they have any conections in the city. The lawyer will likely charge you around $100.

Damn, where were they shooting radar in Orleans Parish? I can't recall them ever caring about speeding within the city limits.

Yes.

You'll meet with the Asst Da and he will review your ticket. He will offer you something to plead guilty to (no seat belt, expired brake tag etc - a non moving violation). Whatever he offers you just take it (assuming it is a non moving violation), pay the fine and move on.

If they don't offer you anything right off the bat, just ask....He I want to plead not guilty but is there any way you can get it reduced to something that won't go on my insurance.

Unless your driving record is a disaster and you're a complete DB, they do it all the time.

They've been writing a lot of ticket up and down Canal Blvd near Harrison a lot lately.

I live near here and see them all the time--common place fro DUI roadblocks too. This ticket was close to there--Lakeshore Drive. It's 35 mph, but slows to 25 mph near West End/Landry's/Lighthouse. He got zapped coming east to west here around the curve. Cars were lined up stopped getting tickets.

Thanks for all the input folks!
