Does anyone know if there can be interference that would lead to a misread on a police officers radar gun if you have your own radar gun on in the car while driving?

The reason I ask is that I was sitting next to a baseball scout at a game and he kept getting "misreads" on his radar gun readings. When I asked him about it he said that sometimes other radar guns in the area will trigger a misread.

Does anyone know if there is truth to that?

Did he use radar or lidar?

In in the case of radar, no probably not. In the case of lidar, definitely not.

I think he was just drinking. That's not how those guns work

probably needs to be re-calibrated.

No.

The radars police use are much more advanced than a baseball scout's radar.

You could check if the police radar certification is up to date and that he filled his calibration log out that day. But if you take it that far you aren't going to get any help on the fine and court costs.

Myth busters debunked basically all forms of radar interference.

Very few agencies still use radar. Laser is a lot more efficient and radar detectors are useless since shooting laser is like shooting a firearms, it only emits the signal when the trigger is engaged. If you have a radar detector and get Hit with laser, that shite is gonna go off like Hiroshima but it'll be too late, they already have your speed

There is such thing as radio frequency interference (RFI). Google it.

However if that was the case the radar simply would not work until the RFI is no longer present.

No radar is still the most popular due to it being able to operate while the patrol car is in motion.

And if you operate the Radar correctly Radar Detectors do not work either..

So, you're going to hire a radar gun expert to come testify at your speeding ticket trial? Sounds like a brilliant idea.

Wrong. Radar is still used much much more than LIDAR (laser). LIDAR guns are still rather expensive and do not have the ability to be used while the patrol vehicle is moving. Radar units have both stationary and moving modes and do not require the officer to physically aim the gun at a vehicle.

True. The beam emitted by the LIDAR guns is very narrow like 3 ft or so at 300 yds. Not much chance of picking up laser scatter until being in the cross-hairs. Radar, on the other hand, is much wider and bounces everywhere. Metal signs, other cars, etc.

You, as a layman with zero technical expertise or background with radar or lidar, are going to disprove the calibrated speed tracking device used by a professional LEO who was specifically trained to use the device in his jurisdiction's home courtroom?

Your Chance of Success:
100% 80% 60% 40% 20% [ 0% ]

PS: You might want to have your putative children's DNA tested as there's a high probability your wife could have easily cheated on you for their conceptions.

True. Instant-On is a bitch especially when the officer is being selective. Though most are lazy or realize that most people don't have radar detectors and just leave it constantly transmitting. Getting people for speeding is like shooting fish in a barrel since most speed limits are posted well below the flow of traffic anyway. It's basically the lowest hanging fruit of all traffic violations and generates a ton of revenue. In the name of safety of course. *cough*

I'm not sure, but I feel like they lie to you sometimes.

I was driving down I-85, had my cruise set at 73 and Waze was telling me I was doing 73. Saw the cop about half a mile away. Got over in the passing lane, as he was parked on the right side of the road. He pulls me over and tells me I was doing 79. I explain to him that I was tracking my speed through the digital and dial speedometer, and Waze and that I don't know how he could have clocked me 6 mph faster. He checks my license, tags, etc. then let me go.
