What airline is gonna start charging for overhead bin space?

Probably Spirit if they aren't already.

No it was one of the other big ones. They were gonna have a different class of travelers. Another type of economy class...but you had to pay an extra fee for overhead bin space.

What does that mean? Quality of maintenance department?

If you're maintaining an older fleet of aircraft but you have great engine/airframe mechanics, electricians/avionics technicians, and non-destructive inspectors etc. you should expect a maintenance breakdown that would be on par with newer aircraft

Their service level is far superior to American or united or delta

That is almost always not the case where I travel. They don't even go to every domestic market, and they still have zero service to Europe.

They just got 3-4 new gates at PIT. I have heard awful things about the airline.

Would love to see SW, JetBlue or Frontier at HSV . Delta is breaking the bank to go with a shitty layover in ATL

Do older models rotate out when the new models arrive?

ETA: Still in service, but in an alternate fashion?

Booking with pts is legit on southwest. Flying 3 of us round trip to Miami (Ft Lauderdale) next January is 29,000 pts.

I know United has begun to roll out their basic economy, and I'm pretty sure other majors are doing something similar. Not sure exactly what they charge for, but I know it's closer to Spirit level. MileagePlus members don't accumulate miles, no option to upgrade to economy plus or first class, etc. It's a good option in theory for people who just want to get there for cheap without having to risk it on Spirit, but from what I've seen so far, the fares are usually only $20-40 cheaper than standard economy, so it's pretty shitty.

Agreed, it's almost never cheaper. I basically only fly American but boy I wouldn't mind flying out of love.

This. Plus with the window (for me at least) I can lean into it and get more room so my back doesn't get jacked up.

Most of the time, yes. They'll be sent to other airlines/charter companies or the cargo carriers.

Outdated fleet? Delta still flies MD-88's built 20+ years ago.

So does American, Allegiant and Spirit. Delta and United still fly 747s from the early 90s while everyone else is flying 777s, 787s, and A330s on the same routes.

Spirit only operates the A320 family of aircraft. They have a pretty young fleet, but their dispatch rate is pretty bad as the maintenance program is not very good.
