Section 8 refers to a federal housing voucher program, offering rent payment assistance for private housing based on income levels and family composition.
The signs didn’t last long.
The three he put out last week were stolen or torn apart within 24 hours, Myers said. He said he filed a police report and has put up new signs.
lol i hope they continue to be stolen. this is bullshite.

Seriously, it's such a great idea to put people of different socioeconomic classes together in one community.
The idea of people working their asses off to live in a nice place that's secure and quiet and away from white and ghetto trash is so racist and insensitive.

Well, his property will soon be worth nothing.

This would just be comical to watch everyday. It's racists to to let section 8 move into southdowns

Back in the 1970's I helped move my sister into an apartment on Gardere lane. It actually was very nice back then. After those properties were fully depreciated, they were sold, probably depreciated by the next owners then went section 8.
I don't think anyone on this board would desire to live there today. Slippery slope it is.
I saw one of his signs on Morning Glory while on a bike ride on Sunday. Good luck to all parties involved.

Not sure where you live but I would say a solid 60-65% of Section 8 tenants in the New Orleans area do not respect their living accommodations provided to them by the government. This has an impact on property value and for those NOT on Section 8 who have lived in an area and busted their arse as well to live in a nice home in a nice area don't deserve to have outside assistance destroy their neighborhood. Many folks, myself included, simply don't like to see someone on their arse all day while I'm at work (section 8 or not I don't care). The person in the article has SEVERAL properties in the area and I'm sure folks are fully aware that if section 8 took over property value would decrease and ruin what they have worked so hard for. And most of the time it's difficult to pickup and leave when you don't have the government holding your hand and wiping your arse through the process.

I live in a middle class neighborhood. My last neighbor was Section 8. She was good people and wanted her kid raised in a neighborhood where her son could gave a chance at life. She kept her house up as much as any regular renter. I realize she's an exception, but there are some good Section 8 renters out there. Just want to state that before this thread goes how I expect it to go.

The idea that a person that has worked their entire lives to own a property in a nice neighborhood seeing the government give worthless assholes properties in the neighborhood for free is reprehensible.

Section 8 is the single biggest cancer that destroys neighborhoods in America today. Once section 8 moves in to a neighborhood, it quickly destroys its host before moving on to consume the next neighborhood, like the cybugs off of "Wreck-It Ralph"

Absolutely there are MANY good and deserving residents. As I said though the 60% have put such a negative light on Section 8 that it is something people just cringe at when hearing it.

Nearly a thousand years ago. Gardere has definitely gone downhill since then.

This is horrible... Who the frick is this guy? How does something like this happen in one of the nicest most valued neighborhoods in BR? Sounds like a real piece of shite to me. I rent in Southdowns and pay $700 a month. I work my arse off. If you can't afford rent, go live in the slums. frick you, I have zero sympathy. Don't come screwing up my neighborhood.

That guy is a POS. Some of my friends rented from him, and he's the worst. Incredibly stupid

Why so much uproar about someone wanting to live in a better area of town?
Maybe these people are trying their best to maintain employment but keep on getting beat down by their redneck boss.
Maybe these people enjoy the job they have but unfortunately does not pay well so the government steps in and helps out.
In New Orleans they have the "artist lofts" which are pretty much section 8 and I never hear New Orleans residents complaining about the benefits these people receive.
It sucks how a small group of bad seeds can ruin everything for a whole demographic.
