I believe i am in a pickle! Its a long story but would appreciate any opinions and information.

About two months ago i had a gate installed. A day after the fencing company installed the gates, I notice water start to build up by one of the post. Of course I thought the post somehow cracked a water line or something. After two days of them saying they would come look at it, the water is starting to really build up and it smells like sewage. It gets worse every time we run the washing machine or taking showers\baths, more water surfaces around the post but its now trickling to back yard.

I immediately call Roto Rooter because the fence company was taking their sweet time to make repairs, etc.

He comes out and digs around the post where the water is coming from. He explains to me that the fence company is a bunch of assholes from dropping a post on top of a cover cap. He says they should have never dropped the post where they did because its in the way of things. He unscrews the cover cap and sewage backs up and over flows. He flushes the line and all is well.

Two days later while during a heavy rainstorm, we have the washing machine running. She just finished a bath and the tub is draining and all hell breaks loose. The pipe in my utility room for the washing machine starts overflowing and it stinks. It finally quits after 5 or so minutes. I call Roto Rooter again.

The guy comes back out and runs video this time. The video shows that my terracotta pipe is needing to be replaced because there are roots running through the joints and shite. The video also shows that the clog\backflooding is originally starting at the cities pipes. He says there pipes are just as bad. In order to replace my sewage pipes, the city must make repairs on their pipes. The city came out that day as well and ran the "jetters" to flush out the sewage line. It also looked like they were going to make repairs but it was lip service

Roto Rooter suggested to leave the cover cap off because when a clog or backflow happens again, its best to let it overflow in your yard versus your house.

Well after that rainstorm yesterday, it did it again. My back yard flooded. I didnt see TP or shite but just mainly all the rain water i think.

I re-contacted city again today who sent people out, who were running video because they are aware that I have an open sewage line basically and that I cant replace my sewage line until they fix theirs.

Roto Rooter mentioned that Southdowns is frequently experiencing this. Most of the pipes are terracotta and they are needing to be replaced. He said that the city's pipeline is fricked as well. I believe with Rouzan being at one end of my street, this is causing severe backflow. The city's pipeline is under the street so they will have to tear up the street.

The funny thing is that my neighbor had some plumbing problems like this. The city had to come tear up the road in order to fix it. We are talking about 20 ft apart.

I noticed another house about 3 houses down closer to Rouzan had a Roto Rooter truck in their driveway after rainstorm we had yesterday. The person from City said they just came from a house 2 blocks away where they were experiencing plumbing issues.

-- recap - I believe Southdowns is starting to experience plumbing and drainage problems due to Rouzan and old piping.

It just sucks because I want to fix my pipes and not have an open sewage line but I cant because the plumber discovered that the city's pipes are just as fricked up

Call Chris Nakamoto at WBRZ Ch.2. Get him on this story, he'll basically harass the city government for you, until they do something about it. shite he even got Port Allen a new mayor.

If you lived in north baton rouge yes, but southdowns is unfortunately located south of Florida Blvd, the dividing line of BR.

Had the same problem with my house a few years ago in MS. The good news is the city paid for it all. Apparently if the cracks are within your property lines, they don't have to. I was just happy for that. However, we kept a shopvac handy b/c it was happening almost weekly until the city realized the problem(we paid roto rooter ~$400 for 2 visits) and got it fixed.

tl:dr hang in there and be happy the city is paying for it. or move to your brother's neighborhood. We're trying to.

Absolutely. I wouldn't pay the new Amazon sales tax either.

Call 663-5238 and talk to Holly. She is in charge of the emergency repairs for the SSO program.

they reimbursed my roto rooter bills which is fine but i cant be dealing with this crap after heavy rain falls. I mean i got lucky yesterday as far as water but when shite and TP start overflowing then we have a problem.

the city is undergoing a major overhaul with its sewer system. I've been smelling sewage in several areas of town, most noticeably near Valley street.

as for your problem, it sounds like it is isolated to your house. Call your councilman and get on their arse.

Sounds like a root ball in the main line sewer pipe, the city will have to either bring a machine that cuts it out or just cut and replace the existing main line. Any time it rains the system will have infiltration and overload the sewer capacity (especially with on open clean out cap). There's not much you can do other than stay on the city and explain that the problem area is outside your property line and a point repair needs to be made.

It also sounds like the fencing company should replace part of your service line and cleanout/cap.

I'm a little skeptical of the situation and explanations considering this happened immediately after the fence.

i actually have an email chain from the events in October. The person working for the insurance company for the city that writes the reimbursement checks copied in a head dude from the city - Mitch back in October but he never replied.

I sent an email to them yesterday where the insurance guy copied in two more BR officials as well as Mitch saying that someone needs to help me out and go repair this.

Two city workers were there today running video feed. I have not got an update on what they found, etc
