Nah, that was just some old man. Crawling around in briefs, smell of balls in the air, was the low point.

Tell him the Marines will be the first to patrol whatever shitty country we invade. Air Force would be the better option.

Tell him to get a job he can use when he gets out, ie technician of some sort or medical.
And the hurry up and wait thing is just something he'll have to get used to. I did 20 years of it in the Army.

They only know what you tell them.
I joined at 21 and "had never been to an emergency room".
If it isn't important, keep your mouth shut.

Advice for MEPs? Don't be a douchebag. That's all I got.
Asking for advice on MEPs is like asking someone if they should study for a urinalysis.
I was a Nuke. The test was easy and so was the program.

just let him know to get a good nights sleep and eat a healthy breakfast
its just a shite load of test and taking the oath
he'll be fine at MEPS the real fun starts when he has to put his feet in the yellow makers after getting off the bus at MCRD

Relax, follow the instructions that the staff there gives him, and it's a piece of cake. worst part is sitting around doing nothing for a good part of the day, as others have said.
oh, and tell him to dress warm. it's fricking cold in there.

It sucks, it's long, it's boring.
It's the first taste of everything else military.
It sucks. No physical requirements, just boring, long, and shitty. If go through boot ten times before I went back to the meps station.

MEPS is pretty straight forward. A piss test and a basic physical.
Did this 28 years ago, so nothing has changed.

Congrats to your son.
No to every question medical related pretty much and meps day starts part of his training which is the hurry up and wait game.

When did they start pissing in a cup? Didn't do that in 05!

Practice the duck walk for balance (Google a YouTube video for instruction) - don't want to fail that and have to come back at a later date.
Clean his ears out very well.
If he's never complained of a particular medical ailment to a physician or had it otherwise documented, he's never had said ailment. MEPS IS NOT THE TIME FOR SELF-DIAGNOSING.
If he's never been arrested for drug use or had it otherwise documented, then he has never tried drugs.
Pretty simple - with the drawdown in effect, the military can be more selective than before, so take the last 2 parts of this advice very seriously. And for his future service.

I went into the Navy in 95 and neither the Navy nor the Marines drug tested at MEPS. They didn't drug test until boot camp. It was the first thing we did when we arrived at Great Lakes.

Hmmm. When I went through MEPS and when I worked there, everyone was subjected to almost the same routine. I guess it changes from time to time. At the hotel, the night before MEPS, half the kids were slamming cranberry juice.

To this day my BIL requires canned cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving. Preferable with the indentation of the can still in it
