Something is eating my memory

I have an old compaq that I use at work to browse the internet instead of using my work laptop. Anyway I was constantly having low HD memory problems, so I deleted like 5 gigs of music. A week or two later I start getting the warning again with nothing being added. I use it like that for a while than decide to clean up like another 2 gigs of disk space. Three days later warning back without adding anything. No matter what I do I'm always at %99+ of disk space used. Any suggestions on what could be causing this?

I was having that problem with IE (don't know what version). On the machine I run XP on, I just started using Chrome (as opposed to IE), and I don't have that problem anymore. I'm assuming the error your getting is the "Out of memory on line xxx"...

No I'm getting the low local disk space warning. The computer won't even back itself anymore because it's always so low on hard disk space. I also run chrome on xp now.

My anti virus is nowhere near up to date because I can't accept the updates because there's never enough memory.

ccleaner might be a good thing to try as well.. it may just be an excess of temporary internet files

Not being a dick but something is eating your storage, not your memory.

Are you talking about memory or drive space?

First thing to do then is to clear some disk space. If you can't find things to get rid of by going through the disk manually, try to download WinDirStat. It's a little utility that tells you what files and directories are taking up the most space on your disk so you'll know what to go delete. LINK /

Once you clear disk space update your virus software and run a scan and then download a program like malwarebytes and run a scan with it. It often finds things your virus software will miss.
