So my brilliant self accidentally spit a sunflower seed shell into my gas tank while I was pouring gas in there...I'm screwed right?

You're probably going to explode
Posted on 6/14/14 at 12:53 pm to couv1217
No you're not screwed. remove tank and pour out the contents. refill.

nah, if it even makes it to the filter, that's the end of it, if it were to get into the engine, it would just become fuel, no worries

Are you a chick? Just remove gas tank, empty, replace, refill
Posted on 6/14/14 at 12:54 pm to couv1217
I'd probably just roll with it.

You are maybe screwed out of a few dollars in gas. Just tilt the mower over and pour the gas out onto your neighbors lawn and make sure you remove the seed.

According to the EPA, grain seed in gasoline is a good thing.

Should not hurt anything if you want to cut grass today. However, I wouldn't leave it in there, as it will eventually break up an cause some problems.
I would recommend you either remove the gas tank and dump it to get the shell out or go somewhere like harbor freight and get one of those little claw-type grabbers to get it out over the next week or so...

It would have to pass though the carb to get into the engine-not gonna happen. May very well not have a filter.

a sunflower seed is not going to take out a lawn mower engine

Overfill it with gas and shell may float to top. Retrieve with needle nose pliers ( if you know what those are ). Sorry- had to do it.
Edit ; if its dark inside of tank, use a flashlight , not a match to look down inside.
You can never be too safe when giving guidance

Hey man, nice shot!

Not going to hurt anything.
What hurts them engine is when the ethanol separates where water along with small particles of trash is at the bottom while good gas is at the top. That will make it to the carb while a sunflower seed is fairly big which the probability of making it through the carb fairly slim.
Now over time it may clog your fuel line.

They make this little gadget that sells at harbor frt for 5 bucks. Has a plunger on one end and other end opens up some grabber forks. I have one. Don't know how to post pics sorry.
