NEW ORLEANS -- A concerned citizen sounded the alarm after spotting bottles of bleach and a threatening sign.

The possible target? Stray cats in Mid-City.

"To see that sign -- it's written with such, it's demonic really the intent behind it. I don't know why anyone would have a problem with cats," said Mid-City resident James Bruce.

On this spring-like January day, we caught up with Bruce on his front porch while he was being greeted by the excited licks of Guss and Pizza, his two pugs.

The self-proclaimed animal lover is shocked to hear that just across the street something sinister has been lurking.

The hand-written sign clearly says: "anti-freeze and poison come next. You have been warned." Next to it, our news crew spotted four empty bottles of bleach in the 2400 block of Bienville Avenue.

Contractors working nearby say they found two of those bottles tied upside down to a tree, above a large pile of pet food.

Anyone else confused about what is going on? Is someone putting out food threatening to put antifreeze in the next batch.. wtf is going on here?

I have a cat that stays indoors. I have no problem with killing stray cats or dogs. They are both a nuisance.

I feel like there has to be some kind of line that this person is crossing... what happens if your dog or cat escapes the house and comes across this delicious treat?

I would obviously prefer the animals be trapped and taken to a shelter first so they can be killed humanely if nobody wants them. Poisoning is pretty sadistic and cruel.

I'm leaning this direction toward my neighbor's "outside cat" who sleeps on the hood of my car each night.
I have new scratches and paw prints every morning

I lived right bbeside Snake and Jake's last year.

There was a group of 15+ cats that lived on my block. They would run in my house when I had the door open and frick shite up. They roamed around the neighborhood being all stupid and catlike.

frick those cats and frick the people for keeping so many animals as pets.

rant/off

Don't poison animals. We, as a society, are above that.

Looks to me like someone is tired of Gus and Pizza crapping in their yard.

As a freshman at LSU i used to have a job that required me to drive a kubota around Tiger Stadium. TS has a huuuuuge stray cat population (they hunt mice, hide when people are there, and thus are generally welcomed by the stadiums staff). Im not a psycho, but i used to think it would be loads of fun to drive around the stadium by myself hunting cats with a 22. I suppose i would substitute cats out for, say racoons or large vermin if given the choice.
