I asked about it and was told it was over

it had a cache of sorts, til one day in the 80's COPS aired

with a mardi gras episode and it was up close and personal...after that, never cared if I ever went

I'm not really a Mardi Gras type. It's already been established here many times that I'm no fun. So I get it. I know I'm lame.

If it was every four years or something, I would like it more. To me, it's just the same thing over and over. It seems like Mardi Gras people are easily entertained. That's not a bad thing, by the way. I wish I were more easily amused. Mardi Gras is not for me. And that's nothing wrong with Mardi Gras. The holiday and me just don't mix.

Worry not, there are about 50 of them every year. They're fungible, so no one will remember you.

I went to parades for my enjoyment till I hit 30. Now with kids, I go for their enjoyment. Otherwise, parades don't matter much to me. They do provide a good reason to get together with a large group of friends much like a tailgate.

Mardi Gras haters are on the level of Bama sidewalk fans from Louisiana.

I actually prefer shreveport mardi gras to new orleans. Completely different, to each his own.

I loved new orleans mardi gras when I was 18-25

But my all time favorite mardi gras was in mamou

Waiting for the parade is the most fun. Once it gets there I'm ready to leave

You don't have to try hard to catch shite. Where are you getting that idea?

I like to be outside, drink beer, watch the parades and catch shite sometimes. I have some more fun when I take my son out there.

Plenty of people down here don't like it. I know more than a few who go out of town: skiing, camping, visit family.

I went to a Star Wars themed walking parade last night, it's hard not to enjoy yourself a little bit.

Listening to the high school bands.

Marching bands sound awful. Almost no one goes to hear them.

I understand how you feel because I basically feel the same way. I honestly don't understand why people go crazy over similar parades, floats, beads, and plastic cups. I do, however, attend parades with family and friends every year. I stand back and watch the madness.

I do love the days off. I love the king cake too.

The Balls/Formals.
The 'excuse' to party and drink
Boobs....
King Cake
A 'reason' to partake in all of the above AND decorate

Like it or not, embrace the suck and have fun!

Ride in a parade, you will love it. I ride in Endymion, have for 18 years, best weekend of the year. The days can't go by fast enough to get to the weekend. Friday and Saturday will be absolute shite shows, then Sunday we take our daughter to watch those parades. Solid weekend, but ride you might have a different appreciation then.

Throwing beads in the tuba is one of GOAT Mardi Gras traditions.

It's like a LSU tailgate to me.
We went uptown yesterday and finished the night in Metairie for Ceaser.
Made new friends and caught up with lots of old friends. We're to two house parties and visited a few bars.

St Charles was full of families and it was a beautiful day.
I feel sorry for people who have never experienced Mardi gras the right way.

I get why Mardi Gras is so fun but it's not my thing. I can definitely live without it and would much rather be playing golf.

Since I've moved away, I really haven't missed it like I thought that I might.

I've had the opposite experience. When I moved away, I didn't think I'd miss it, but I really do. I usually take off for Mardi Gras & go home, but this year I'm not able to get away next weekend. I'm really really gonna hate sitting in the office that Tuesday knowing that in New Orleans all my friends are off and having a blast partying. It really makes me homesick.

Like someone else said, its not about the parade. It's about the "tailgating" for hours before the parade. Just something about posting up on the street with your friends and drinking and having fun for 2 weeks a year. It's special.
