I wanna compare it to the Dollar Shave Club and what I normally use, Gillette Mach 3 razors.

Thanks.

To add additional information:
I have coarse facial hair that grows fairly quickly (I usually shave on Monday and Thursday mornings)
I live in an uninsulated house so time is of the essence when I'm shaving as I don't feel like getting swamp nuts all the time

No need to compare it to the DSC. I bought into the hype and was terribly disappointed. It's Mach 3 for me until I find decide to go with a safety razor

Someone recently recommended one of these to me

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger.

I use a Merkur, Feather Platinum blades, WSP badger hair brush, and Blade Grim soap.

It's worked well for me so far. Blades are the most important, but as long as they are sharp there's little difference. Soap is where the most quality comes from. I tried a handful of soaps before I settled and shaves are great now.

I have a Merkur 34C and use feathers and astra SP for blades. I've been using all the proraso creams of various scents for the cream. I like the sandalwood. For post shave I use the proraso menthol eucalyptus lotion.

I will never shave with anything else.

-Edwin Jagger DE89Lbl Lined Detail Chrome Plated Double Edge Safety Razor
-Edwin Jagger Best Badger Shaving Brush
-A stand to hold them
- Taylor of Old Bond Street Almond scent
- Either Feather brand or Astra brand platinum razor blades
- Dove aftershave lotion for men

the initial set up costs a bit but I now go through 1 tub of the TOBS cream once every 6-7 months. I bought a 100 pack of the Astra platinum razor blades for $10 in June of 2014 and still have about 20 to go. The shaving cream costs $15. I always got razor burn with multi blade setups. That never happens now.

Harry's is the tits. Just as good as Mach 3 for less money and it comes with awesome shaving cream.

ETA: did you say you have course, fast growing facial hair and shave twice a week? Get on the twice a day routine and then we can talk.

Been a safety razor user since beginning of the year, after a 25 year layoff after learning to shave with these when I was just starting to shave. I also have a very heavy beard and I use the Edwin Jagger DE89 with the Kelvin handle with either Astra blades. I love all sterling soaps and use an Omega boar hair brush. I spent less than $50 on Amazon for all except the soap. Soap runs about $10 per scent from sterling soaps.com.
The key to wet shaving is to learn the proper technique and take your time when shaving. Shaving has become more enjoyable since my move back to wet shaving.
Follow Nickshaves on YouTube for some good reviews as well.

Went with Blades Grim.

I tried Proraso, Sandalwood, and some others but didn't get that great of a shave. Everyone's face is different, but my beard is thick and none of them lifted the hairs as well as Grim does.

This is what I started with 3 years ago and still continue to use:

Edwin Jagger DE89bl
Tweezerman's Brush
Feather Blades
Proraso Sensitive Soap (I hate scented products)
Nivea Sensitive After Shave Balm

You should be able to get the above for around $75.

Merkur razor
Feather blades
The Art of Shaving Sandalwood pre-shave oil
Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood shaving cream
Escali badger brush
Neutrogena triple protect face lotion

I switched to this set up over a year ago now. I'll never go back!

There are good suggestions here, I just want to add to a previous post that Feather blades are the best, but not good to start with. Start with the merkur, derby, or even gillette blades. Amazon sells sample packs of DE blades, try a few. When you are pretty comfortable with the DE shave switch to the feather.

However, if shave duration is critical then you may want to continue your cartridge shave. Safety or straight shaves take up a lot more time.

Merkur long handle (don't remember model number) on Amazon $30
100 pack feather blades $15
Taylor of Old Bond Street cream $25
Badger hair brush $20.

It's been a year since I've bought any shaving stuff and Igot everything above. On my last pack of razors shave 5 times a week at least. Have a good bit of cream left, so I only have a 15 buck purchase to look forward to for another year of shaving instead of 30 bucks for 8 cartridges.

I don't think my everyday shave is that much closer (although I can go against the grain with a freash blade with no irritation). But the cost is worth it.

I believe the shaving soap and/or oil, along with proper preparation are more important than the blade. Last time I was in LV, AOS gave me some samples. Just the better product with my antiquated Atra made a difference. Then I tried the better product and started to do a hot towel with the Atra.

Then I called these guys (LINK /), and talked to one of their consultants for about 45 minutes and settled on this stuff:

Gentlemens Refinery Shave Cream - $27.99
Classic Brand Super Badger Shaving Brush - $49.99
Vulfix Shaving Brush Stand - $8.99
Merkur "Hefty Classic" Safety Razor - $39.99
Feather Hi Stainless Platinum Double-Edge Blades - $2.99
Razor Blade Safe -$0.99
Astra Platinum Double Edge Blades - $1.99
Crystal Double Edge Blades -$2.50
Pinaud/Clubman Styptic Pencil - $2.59
The Gentlemens Refinery Aftershave Balm - $39.99
Subtotal $178.01
Shipping & Handling $0.00
Grand Total $178.01

I graduated to the Feather blades pretty quickly. But I'm pretty new at this, so be careful if you're in a hurry with Feather blades.

I'm experimenting around, and I think I want a stronger scented cream. AOS gave me a pack of oil, but I didn't buy anymore as I think the hot towel and better quality cream does the trick.

Anyway, what I would do is just buy some better product, use your regular razor and prepare with a hot wash cloth, or shave after you shower. You see an immediate difference. From there you'll probably want to go to a safety razor, and eventually might even want to buy a straight razor with changeable blades.

A straight blade shave, which my barber does, if one of life's luxuries.

Don't know anything about that soap, but the rest is exactly my setup. Merkur, Feather Platinum, and WSP badger hair.

Blades are personal preference. I tried the Merkur platinum, but greatly preferred the Feather. I found them to be the best for mitigating ingrown hairs, which was my whole reason for switching.

I couldn't disagree more. I was very disappointed with Harry's.
