quote:

his way to visit Israel with his family, a Los Angeles businessman came upon 400 U.S. soldiers preparing to eat their paper sack dinners during a layover in Shannon, Ireland and decided he wanted to honor them with a good warm meal.

As the regular passengers and friends were all dining at the various trendy restaurants, entrepreneur and philanthropist Shlomo Rechnitz approached the commander and told him that he wanted to treat the servicemen to the same. At first the commander said it was unnecessary, but Shlomo insisted, and the commander announced to all the soldiers that they could eat a meal at any restaurant up to $50. After the servicemen ate, the commander asked if Shlomo would share with all of them why he wanted to do this.

Rechnitz addressed the men saying,

" ...you guys risk your lives to protect me and protect my family. If I get to go out and see a whole bunch of Army soldiers and Marines, it's something that makes me proud. I'm on my way to Israel now and you guys protect them too, and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Support our troops.

Because there are actually still good people in the world who appreciate life, and don't merely use it as a vehicle to promote themselves and their agendas.

It happens to me about 3 times a year when I'm out and about, usually in a group.

I love it and it means a lot to me.

It does kind of feel awkward, like a hand out though.

You should NEVER feel awkward in any way, it's a gift of appreciation and respect for what you do, NOT a handout

Looks like he does things like this, sometimes on a much larger scale, quite often.

The fact that he let people know he did this annoys Scruffy.

Good for him, but keeping your name out of it makes it mean more.

In 2012 Rechnitz heard about Diane Aulger, a mother of five in North Texas that had her labor induced few weeks early so that her husband could meet their daughter before he died from pulmonary fibrosis. Upon hearing the story, Rechnitz personally phoned Augler himself and sent her $20,000.

This guy is awesome.

He explained why he did what he did and even though our military can't teach our service members how to turn a camera sideways someone filmed it. I don't see anything that shows he did this for attention.
