We have a business casual dress policy at work. This a fairly recent policy down from full business and they've had issues with it but everyone keeps in line. Yesterday, this geeky frick comes in wearing sweatshirt T-shirt. This arises complaints from some of the higher ups and several of the managers make their way by his desk to remind him how much it'd suck to have to go back to full business. He shrugs them off.

Today, him and 3 of his geeky arse friends are wearing the same damn shirts.

Yep, time to set an example.

Unless that crew is indispensable, in which case the OP is the one that's about to get a crash course in how the world works.

Follow him into the bathroom then rape him. That mother fricker will never wear a sweater vest again. His word against yours.

1 What's designated as business casual doesn't seem very casual from my point of view. If you have to wear dress pants, a button up shirt, and leather shoes, that's dressing up.

2 That said, this guy and his friends are practicing what used to be known as Silent Insubordination, and they can't be allowed to get away with it. Spell out to them exactly what the dress code is, and if they fail to follow it, institute whatever disciplinary procedures your company adheres to.

He's in a different department and I'm not a manager and I couldn't fire a fruit fly if I wanted to.

Ok so his supervisor needs to do exactly what Jim Rockford said. Set expectation and act accordingly.

Why this doesn't end with "and they all got fired" I'll never understand

I wear khakis and a dress shirt every day. Nice jeans are allowed occasionally and polo shirts are allowed.

That might leave anal evidence. Besides.. OP would just enjoy it and therefore not report it.

Written documentation of review of dress code policy for all who didn't adhere. Obtain a signature that confirms they understand the policy and are aware they violated it. The 2nd violation results in written reprimand and you get the rest of the day off without pay and a third gets your arse sent out of the damn door.

Progressive, documented discipline.

Dress code violations-especially repeated ones-are so ridiculous you need to be harsh and quick about the discipline on this subject. It's such a ridiculous waste of time to manage employees regarding this.

Some people live to frick good things up for everyone else. You and other coworkers should confront those peckerheads.
