Going to the Angola Rodeo in October with a group of friends. I've never been. What's it like? I know the crafts are supposed to be cool. Do they only take cash? Should I hit up an ATM before going? Do they serve alcohol? How much money should I bring?

It's fun so it is trashy by default.

Horrible. Modern day slavery. Black men are coerced into putting themselves in danger for the amusement of rich white kids.

The crafts are pretty cool. They do take credit cards. Lots of food. I can't remember if they serve beer.... I haven't been in 2 years.
I'd bring enough cash to eat on.

Bring a 100. Some of the stuff is crap. Some of it is cool original stuff.

Buy a commemorative poster.

The rodeo is great if you enjoy rodeos. No beer

Are you really serious with this? You have got to be kidding, or you've never really been to it.

First, it's not really a rodeo. It's inmates who are allowed to play a number of games involving bulls and horses in order to earn some money for themselves. It's more "Jackass" than rodeo, but damned if it isn't entertaining.

Some are crap. Some are REALLY well made. You just have to go through and see what's on sale. Best stuff sells early if you're looking for furniture.

I don't remember if the concession stands take cards, so bring some cash for that. Arts and crafts area definitely takes cards. You haggle with the inmate for a piece you want and when you agree on a price, he fills out a slip of paper with the price and the number of the piece. You take that paper to a central cashier (not an inmate) and the cashier runs your credit card and writes a receipt for the inmate. You bring that back to the inmate and he gives you your piece.

frick no. It's a prison.
quote:

How much money should I bring?
Enough for concessions. 20 or 30.

Also, be prepared to be in traffic for at least an hour just to get back out to Hwy. 61. There's that one long road in and out of the prison and you're all going to be on it together. Bring snacks and water if you need to.

Don't bring beer. Trying to bring beer into a prison is not a good idea unless you're shooting for a more authentic inmate experience.
