All of my AA coworkers are in high spirits today. Since I arrived, I have heard joyful praise for OJ's parole decision, complete with fistbumps and slap-handshakes.

I personally couldn't care either way. I also don't care if he killed his estranged wife, or if he didn't. If a jury found him innocent, then you gotta take the good with the bad. It's the only way our system works.

I definitely get the feeling the decision to release Juice back into the stream of the common man is seen as a victory to some groups of people. Why, I am not entirely sure.

I remember Chris Rock's words (paraphrased):

"I remember when the trial was over, people talking 'bout 'WE WON! WE WON!' Mannnn, WTF did we win!? I go to the mailbox everyday looking for my OJ check; it still ain't come."

Minority posters: do you OJ's oppression as a microcosm of the general oppression of your peoples?

It certainly was during the murder trial. I'm sure many still have the same feelings.

Noted honky here: OJ should've gone to prison for the murders, but got screwed on the "robbery" crap.
I honestly don't give a shite wether he is in prison or not and don't take it as a loss to my race that he is out now.

ETA: when I said should've, I mean I think he did it not that the State proved it.

He should go to prison for making the Kardashians famous.

Its 2017. Me eating a ham sandwich on white bread is viewed as racism.

Of course the OJ thing is being viewed as Us v. Whitey/Establishment.

the ones celebrating this as a win for their race are the racist ones.

It goes both ways. I'm at a bar yesterday evening and two white guys are going on and on about how OJ never should have gotten parole and it's a blemish on the judicial system that he's getting out.

Am I the only one who really really hope he is on the advertising campaign for the new Ford Bronco?

Might seem like nitpicking to you, but this is an important distinction. He was not found "innocent." That isn't how our legal system works. He was found "not guilty."

What's funny is that blacks see this as them winning when in reality they were just pawns in OJ's game to get out of a double murder. He left his black wife and family for a white woman, refused to involve himself in any kind of racial or civil rights movement and kept company exclusively with whites and other black celebrities. Blackness only became useful to OJ when it benefited him. It's sad how easily duped many in the black community can be.

I was also of the opinion that the robbery thing was a bunch of hooey based on him taking back things that were his UNTIL I researched it a bit. Initially they went there to get his stuff but ended up taking HUNDREDS of items that had nothing to do with him. THAT was robbery since they used a gun to hold the guys hostage.

Only the dumb thought it was White vs Black.

THose with a lick of common sense knew it was class warfare.

Those with money vs those who don't have a pot to piss in. Rich vs Middle/poor justice system

The trial was in LA on the heels of the Rodney King verdict that many, perhaps most, black people felt was flat out wrong. So yes, the OJ trial was seen as black vs. white by many. IIRC, even some of the black jurors in the OJ trial felt that way

No, he was found not guilty. That's not the same as innocent. A member of the jury has openly acknowledged that they knew he was guilty, but they let off OJ simply for Rodney King. Another juror gave a "black power" symbol leaving the court room.

And your coworkers should be ashamed of themselves.

Yeah, approach them with the information that as OJ was being dragged out of his house, his first words were "What the hell are all the n^*^%rs doing in Brentwood?"

A poll a while back said that most black people now believe OJ committed the murders. Now at the time of the trial and a few years after it was definitely a white vs Black to many people even though OJ didn't care about the black community.
