Tell them you're not looking for a relationship either (even if you are). No pressure = better results every time.
Say you work with somebody you have eyes on. If you see this person out n' about have the bartender send her and AT LEAST one of her friends a shot on you. Raise a glass with them from across the room with a wink. That's it. Do not approach. If she thanks you later that night or at work in the near future - There's your green light.
