I went to the downtown area where I live to look for a lost piece of jewelry at some pawn shops. The area is pretty seedy. While looking at the jewelry in the case, a guy around 50 years old walks in with no shirt or shoes on and gets about 12 inches from my face. He looks crazy and says, "What do you see, with your eyes wide open? What do you see? With your eyes wide open."

Naturally I got uncomfortable and said I was just looking at jewelry. Well then he went to the pawn shop counter and asked the people working there the same thing, at which point they hastily told him he needed to leave because he didn't have a shirt on. They started getting angry and very stern but he wasn't budging, and I didn't see what I was looking for so I left. When I got in my car I saw him come out and wander down the street with his arms in front of him like Beavis doing cornholio. Got a good laugh out of the situation.

Anyway today on the way to work I put the radio on and heard that police gunned down a 47 year old man last night on the same block, who was acting irrationally. They said he had a knife and wouldn't put it down. I'm sure it was the same guy I didn't think he seemed that threatening when I saw him, but I'd like to think police acted accordingly.

I know, uncool story bro

When there are no services for the mentally ill, they get incarcerated or gunned down.

Here's the important question. What race was he and what race was the cop that shot him? I need to know this to form an opinion.

Sounds like you and the police had two separate encounters

One time while I was waiting to pull out of the Cane's on Government drive through. I noticed a homeless-looking guy yelling and making wild gestures in the parking lot of the gas station across the street.

Suddenly, he raised his hands and ran right into the road, got hit by a car, rolled over the guys hood, got up (skinned up on his legs pretty visibly) and kept running, almost getting hit again by a car coming the other way.

He ran around Rotollo's and out of sight.

Sometimes people do unpredictable things. I'm always uneasy in those situations.

A lot of police shootings are with the mentally ill. Less than lethal options should be attempted first if possible. There often isn't enough time and distance for police to deploy these. No cop ever wants to shoot in a situation like this.

We don't know if the guy was mentally ill or intoxicated.

I believe you and accept that. But why not pepper spray?

I do think you give the cop every benefit of the doubt. He (or she) is busting arse dealing with deep societal problems with blunt tools.

It was lost, thought someone may have found it and brought it in.
