They're just trying not to be seen as a work environment like Uber while on their IPO roadshow

It's a brave new world.

My buddies mid forties wife (no pics) just took a job with FaceBook in Austin. She is one of the very few adults working there and she has stories about these kids and the shite they pull just about every day. Yesterday they had an office meeting and one of the kids was raising hell because his preferred brand of allergy medicine was out of stock in the FREE OFFICE MEDICINE CHEST that the company keeps stocked for them. This is on top of the daily breakfast and lunch buffets. Plus the ping pong and pool tables in the office. I Just can't relate.

Man if all this bullshite was going on while I was in high school, my buddies and I would have infiltrated these types of meetings just for a good time.

The top tech companies have to do this to get the best talent. Competition is a great thing.

If there is one thing I have come to understand, it is that just because I don't find something valuable doesn't mean that someone else doesn't enjoy it. I see it at every company party where I have a drink and leave while some people dance the entire time. I am not going to discount that some people love things that I do not. And, that's perfectly fine.

Better be optional.

If not, Scruffy's pay better be high enough to compensate. That is some insanity-inducing stupidity there.

Advertisers. Snapchat is one of the more expensive platforms for advertisements right now. It's got the attention of an important demo that used the app constantly throughout all parts of the day. It is an advertisers dream.

Agreed, but that doesn't mean Scruffy can't call something he thinks is stupid, well, stupid.

I don't see this as a bad thing. I think it's taking time out to show that the company cares about you on a personal level and wants you to form strong bonds with your colleagues.

I know it seems like SJW BS, but I have no problems with this. Empathy is something that is lacking in almost every company these days. They only look at you as a number, and frick you from there. There is nothing wrong with this at least as a concept.

Advertisers pay the snapchatters for that directly. Has nothing to do with generating revenue for Snapchat IIRC.

Shonduras, who is one of the most famous snapchatters, talks about his brand deals all the time. Taco Bell is a huge one of his sponsors and he deals directly with them. Nothing at all to do with Snapchat as far as revenue goes.

Snapchat definitely gets paid for ads. My girlfriend works for a major retailer and they were quoted hundreds of thousands of dollars for a ~month long campaign.

I am sure they do somehow because they have to create revenue but when you see stories by individual snapchatters those mostly have nothing to do with Snapchat directly. They are direct brand deals. It's crazy how much the top snapchatters make.

OMG! I'm offended because a company I'm unaffiliated with employs people that care about feelings!
