I was throwing around ideas with the wife a few weeks back about possibly moving to Lafayette. More so South Laffy so it would split the trip for our families, one being in Morgan City and other in Marksville. Question is, what is a nice area south of Lafayette but north of New Iberia? I was thinking Broussard or Youngsville? Any advice?

Why not live in Lafayette? It's not like crime or schools are an issue like in other cities where you HAVE to go suburban. Might as well live in Lafayette and avoid the cluster frick that is Broussard and Youngsville traffic.

Would prefer to live in a rural type area. Probably buy a couple acres and build....

Maurice is solid..North Vermilion is a great high school. Be careful where you move to if it's not IN Maurice..chance of being rezoned to Abbeville is high. You don't want to live in Abbeville or send you kids there.

Youngsville is the place to be right now. Growing like crazy and currently building a new high school.

I'd go farther out than youngsville or Broussard if you want to buy a couple acres

Maybe Maurice

Kafka let's just say it's not the same as when we moved here in 1997. Some parts are really bad and it's not like it's huge so ... although I'm sure the same could be said for other places as well.

Seriously, go to Youngsville or Broussard and pick out a new home in a new subdivision. Now, take that same amount of money and go to Franklin and you can buy something twice as big on multiple acres (although it will certainly be an older house). For 500K, you could probably even find a plantation home.
