Small paycut to work with/for competent people?

Or stick with incompetence for roughly $5,000 more a year? I have an opportunity that places me in this situation right now. What would the OT do?

They may seem more competent now. Could be just as incompetent as the other people once you have to deal with them daily.

That is what I did last year. It cost me about $7k last year, but my quality of life has gone way up. There were factors at play other than the people i.e. job function, opportunity for advancement, etc. Only stay somewhere that makes you unhappy if you have no other choice. Good luck.

depends. if you make 35k a year then no. if you make 150k then yes.

I'd go with the better growth prospects. Regardless of how competent my co-workers are.

one of the things that gives me great satisfaction and enjoyment at my job is working with highly experienced and talented people, knowing that they are mission oriented, task master, alpha types and can be relied on to perform their duties with 100% certainty and reliability, I almost consider it a form of compensation, almost

Try to find a job with competent people making more money. Competent bosses are hard to find. Work hard and move up. If you want competence at the top, climb the ladder and get there.

If competency was guaranteed, I would absolutely take a paycut. I'm convinced that this doesn't exist anywhere though.

Depends if you need the money but i would currently take a 5k paycut for a better situation.

I made the move for the less money 6 months ago. Smarter boss for the win. If I'm going to be judged I'd rather have that done by the smartest person I can.

Honestly I'd take a 10-20% reduction in pay to work with more competent people. It would make my life so much easier and much less stressful, plus my hours worked would probably be more normal.

I'd agree with this.

If they are truly more competent, you'll enjoy your work much more.

5k wouldn't make my decision either way

I would do it if you know for sure they are competent and run their company differently than your current employer. To me, competent leadership and co-workers would beget more opportunities for advancement/raises/etc.
But how do you know they are better? It seems unprofessional to bash your current employer during a job interview, so I'm assuming you know someone who already works there?
