re: Sleep help. Ambien vs. melatonin in the Thunderdome.Posted by RazorBroncs on 9/26/17 at 10:31 pm to LSU alum wannabe
Melatonin won't make you drowsy at all, especially if you're used to ambien. In fact you'll probably have the opposite problem where melatonin really won't do much for you, speaking from a lifetime of experiencing sleep issues and looking for fixes.
Regardless melatonin really won't help you FALL asleep even if it "works" for you, it only helps you STAY asleep and sleep soundly. My doc put me on remaron when I was at the height of my insomnia. It knocked me on my arse at night and usually left me feeling fine the next AM, without all the weird shite ambien made me do throughout the night like coming-to naked in the front yard.

Any success with melatonin?
I use low dose and it does work for me - I try to hold it to 3 or 4 times per week.

Any difficulty waking up? Just 6-8 hours.
Not really. I can't sleep much past 6 hours now, anyway. Never had much of a problem with it.

Trazodone bro. It's amazing. Even allowed me to sleep while going through opiate withdrawals. I'm normally awake for 3 or 4 days in a row when that's happening. It doesn't have the hangover effect, nor does it make you see weird shite like Ambien does. Trazodone is used as anti-depressant for some people, but it's a fricking amazing sleeping pill.
I do have to get up to piss a lot while taking it though. Just try to not to drink a lot before bed.

Last time I took Ambien, I ended up stuck in the living room because my addled brain couldn't see straight and I thought the room was too dark to walk to bed. Even though I had walked to the door and jiggled the handle. I then started yelling at the flying, cloaked figure who kept trying to steal the glass doors off the China cabinet.

Most of the PM medicines are a form of benadryl.

re: Sleep help. Ambien vs. melatonin in the Thunderdome.Posted by stinkdawg on 9/27/17 at 6:04 am to LSU alum wannabe
Ketamine. Shift workers swear by it.

midnite shite doesn't work. stop NOT being helpful, walt.
i don't like pills though. that's just me.
quote:i like it because it helps you FALL asleep and keeps you asleep for the first 1-2 hours when most disturbances can wake you. i'm an extremely light sleeper. it doesn't keep you asleep for the whole 8 hours though so you don't feel groggy.

I bet they do. But pretty exact dosing needed. Go from sleeping to blacked out and dancing for 8 hours in an abandoned warehouse.

I currently use ambien. Probably take it 2-3 times a week.
Not to scare you but you'll die eventually.
Ambien's dirty little secret is that people have killed themselves on this medication. See when you think your sleeping, you body sometime just says frick it, I'm getting up and going do shite that a normal awake person would. only your mind (Or the majority of it) thinks boy this is some really rest full sleep.
Very sad indeed. A lot of important people know about his but hey, big Pharm is making a killing (literally) off of this drug right now so nothing stands in the way of profits....
Good luck

I have used ambien which I loved nothing like skipping a few days and tripping out before bed. I had to quit because it started making me extremely sick the following day. I have tried trazadone as well it was OK once you got to sleep but didn't knock me out like ambien. I am now a 6 pack, two benadryl and a temazepam regiment. Sleep like a rock. If you can't take ambien shoot for temazepam it's from the xanax family. Another dark note on ambien is that combined with alcohol it will damage your liver or kidneys I can't remember which one , at a rapid rate. Temazepam is where it's at.
