Oh, fine. Only First World country where this happens, with any regularity. But by all means keep comparing the United States to Pakistan, China and whatever other strawman point you were trying to make.

Norway? Finland? Switzerland? Like I said, if you count the total number of mass shootings no one is close, but isn't it pretty important to consider total population?

There are more guns than crazy people with tendencies toward mass murder. It would be easier to ban them.

There was a constitutional amendment abolishing slavery. That's the way this wacky constitution thingy works. I suggest you work towards making that happen.

Let's see Chicago has the strictest gun laws and the highest murder rate in the U.S. Yeah that gun control thing is really working.

Take out Chicago, New Orleans, Washington DC, and (I can't remember the city) and the U.S. Murder rate drops by like 70%.

Guess what these 4 cities have the strictest gun laws on the books.

How about addressing the mental illness issue.

This won't happen properly or soon enough.

The result will be a heavy discrimination against the mentally ill in the future. Which will result in more gun deaths.

Those in the know, are completely aware of the problem they're ignoring. Mainly due to how expensive it would be to properly handle the real issue. It's way cheaper and easier to attack gun's.

Assuming this happened, guns would only be in the hands of the government and criminals. That sounds like an awesome result.

Why is this so hard for people to understand?!?!? Every gun debate centers around this fact. Criminals, by definition, break the law. What kind of flowers and unicorns existence to you have to think that just making a law is going to make it all better?

Did you really expect the parents to come out and say "We failed as parents and are fully to blame"?

Unfortunately Gary, guns don't kill people; rather, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE!

You think this coward runs up and kills 2 people if they were doing a live interview from a gun show in town?

GaryMyMan,
You have every other right provided under the Constitution simply because of the second amendment's existence. This is not up for debate and my rights won't be infringed by you and your liberal beliefs. This family is grieving and my heart goes out to them. I live in a world where I accept reality and deal with it. I'm of the opinion it is a damn shame the cameraman or woman being interviewed didn't have a concealed firearm and wasn't able to shoot the lunatic in the face before he inflicted terror upon the innocent bystanders.

I dont shame anyone for having a gun, but there has to be something done about people with mental issues buying/having access to them.

Adam Lanza's mom had a freaking arsonal around a kid who was clearly mentally ill. This Vester guy had severe behavioral issues and he was ble to legally buy a gun. Not sure how you combat against it, but something needs to be done. Private sales dont require background checks

Its also getting to the point for me of "How many guns are enough"?. Its estimated that there are close to 300 million guns in the US with about 5 million new firearms made every year. Serious question....How many is too many?

I'm not pro gun control by any means but making the statement that New Orleans and some other city that you don't know has strict gun laws is pretty idiotic.

Would a background check have prevented this gay racist from having a gun? Just curious.

You can be just as dead from any of those. FWIW gunshots often fail to kill their victims too.

I wonder if any of the pro gun control folks realize that in more than a few cases the people responsible for these attacks would have passed most of the checks that are proposed?

I know they are heartbroken, grief stricken and angry. But the shooter was deranged. He could just as well have been a stabber, a bomber, a poisoner, an out of control driver, a strangler. The operative truth here is not the gun, but the will to kill. That doesn't change by outlawing guns, knives, rope, poison, driving, machetes, swords, or homemade explosives.
