What good are handguns against Machine guns, tanks, bombs and fighter planes with missiles. The second amendment does let me utilize any of this. (sure you can buy a tank, but it has to be made not to fire, you can buy a foreign warbird as long as it can't have weapons.
So in 2015 what the hell sense does it make for me to protect myself from the government?

Extremely effective. Have you not paid attention at all over the last fourteen years?

You also make the false assumptions that 1) federal forces would enact any kind of policies in lockstep and 2) the military is big enough to actually control the country. It would struggle to control a state with the population and terrain of California - forget the rest of the country.

meanwhile, Rs continue to search for those elusive fraudulent voters, way more prevalent than victims of gun violence. gotta have priorities.

You say this as if democrats aren't actively trying to get votes rather than address issues. Gotta have priorities.

I agree with your overall assessment; however, a couple of issues.
quote:

Guns absolutely make it easier for people to kill others, much easier then knives or other deadly weapons. If guns ceased to exist the world would be a safer, less tragic place.

The principle cuts both ways. Guns also make it easier for people to defend themselves either in an individual sense or in a broad sense.

Speaking in a broad sense, freedom has been won at the end of guns. And not just freedom in a independent sense - freedom from oppression, abuse and death. There will always be the "thing" used by evil or good, whether it's a gun, sword, spear or whatever. How many historical tragedies may have been avoided or lessened if the oppressed had had a means to effectively defend themselves?

In an individual sense, why would you think it safer and less tragic for the elderly, affirmed or simply physically challenged to be unable to defend themselves against brute force thuggery? A physically large, tough thug would probably love the idea of no guns anywhere - he'd be more free to commit his crimes without fear of a bullet. And it seems like in areas where guns are heavily restricted, this is often the case.

I know they are heartbroken, grief stricken and angry. But the shooter was deranged. He could just as well have been a stabber, a bomber, a poisoner, an out of control driver, a strangler. The operative truth here is not the gun, but the will to kill. That doesn't change by outlawing guns, knives, rope, poison, driving, machetes, swords, or homemade explosives.

Winner!
Now everyone else go home

I don't own a gun, but my initial reaction upon reading the parents quotes is to wonder where was their passion for gun control prior to this awful incident? I understand they have to direct their anger somewhere and why not at the instrument of death, instead of at the deranged individual responsible. If the guy plowed over the reporter and cameraman with a car, would the parents want cars outlawed?

The party that committed this horrible slaughter took himself out and I am glad that he had a gun to do it. While the cowards way out, his decision spared taxpayers the money and time required to convict and house him.

Because it's extremely easy to blame it on guns, and there are millions of people that will agree with you. How are you gonna blame it on a crazy person? What kinds of laws can be enacted to get rid of crazy people?

It's just the easiest scapegoat

He's trolling. He's a gun owner and knows there is voter fraud. It just eats him inside that he thinks like an R.

They know it's a lost cause, they'll never have a chance at the black vote. If you take away the guns, will the blacks' hate of all things whitey disappear over night?

Yes. Whenever tragedies occur we need to go with a knee-jerk reaction and completely gut the principles this country was founded upon

Sort of the same when an illegal immigrant murders someone & Right wingers want mass deportations or repeal of the Constitution( 14th Amendment).

Seems the 'Constitutionalists' don't have an issue attempting to circumvent the Constitution when it comes to the 14th ,but don't want the Intent of the 2nd questioned.

Cars kill more people than guns.. Let's start with the bigger problem

It has been addressed in cars.

Better safety standards in cars & laws do address vehicle safety.

Speed limits, Seatbelt laws , Air Bags & many other safety features,etc.........

Far more people would die in car accidents without these issues being addressed/ laws changed.

Who said anything about repealing the 14th Amendment?

Anyway, You mean enforce the laws that are on the books in regard to immigration as opposed to not enforcing them?

If their daughter had been killed by a car would they want car control?

I would have more respect for them if they had this stance prior to their daughter being murdered...do they not watch or read the news. People are shot and killed everyday...now they care.

We need make it illegal to break the law. It's time to quit beating around the bush and get some common sense legislation on the books about this problem
