Well that's wrong about people would only know if you told them. people would know if you stood at the urinal forever all frustrated. One time I had to take a drug test & somebody was in there & I could not go. I never told them I had a shy bladder but I think they figured that out after they had to just shut the door & let me pee into the cup alone.

I have a similar bathroom issue. I can NOT piss without someone watching. Don't judge.

I'm in the medical profession and have dealt with people with that condition. They weren't weird and awkward. I thought it was an insensitive thing to make fun of when I first watched it.
