What's the O-T think about it?

Prior to 2008, only six schools with Division I football programs sold beer at their home games. That number has grown to 23 and counting. University of Louisiana at Lafayette was one of the first to start in 2009. The school plays its home games at Cajun Field, which has a seating capacity of 36,900. The school reported a net profit of more than $775,000 derived from alcohol sales at home games in the first five years of selling it inside the stadium. It accounted for nearly 60 percent of their $1.3 million total revenue from all concession sales in those five years.

Fans are less likely to “binge drink” while tailgating before a game because they know they can purchase beer during the game, while inside the stadium. Since beer is sold at games, fewer fans enter the stadium with concealed liquor that has a high alcohol content. Beer sales at Cajun Field are controlled, in the sense that a fan is only allowed to purchase two beers at a time. Concession workers can refuse to serve a patron who appears to be intoxicated, and beer sales cease before the end of the game.

Meh, I don't drink so it doesn't matter either way. If they can do it without it being a drunken clusterfrick, go ahead. I have my doubts.

I have been wanting LSU to do this for so long

I'd believe it.
Compare your behavior in New Orleans where you can drink in the street to when you visit another city and the door man stops you before you walk out.
One encourages you to down some alcohol a lot faster than you'd want to.
Certain people of course are going to be slobbered either way.

I think it has some merit as a subconscious or social thing. You're not pressured into finishing alcohol before going into the game to last you for hours.

But my question is, will they sell it in the student section?

Gotsta. But you best believe ABC will be all over that shite

I don't think it's necessarily a deterrence from binge drinking as much as it is a mechanism to maintain a buzz (post binge drinking). If that's what it will take to keep people in the stands, I'm all for it.
And truthfully, stadiums could charge $20 per beer and people will pay it.

Obviously no one here was at the syracuse game. It's a great time being able to buy tall boys for the game, some stands even ran out before sales were up at the end of half. Must've made thousands just from lsu being there. Try it down here for a year and it'll stick

I grew up near one of the original universities that sold beer in the stadium. Sales ended at the start of the 3rd quarter. Never saw an issue. I think it's nuts not to sell it. It's a huge profit generator. $6 for $.50 worth of beer, but there was always a long line for it.

Yeah, my first thought was how to regulate under-21.
And this would be the only reason they would not sell it to the student section, although I think that would just encourage students to find tickets elsewhere. I don't think they would do that.
No doubt it would generate a frick ton of revenue, especially in venues like Tiger Stadium.

Yes it worked great at Syracuse! West Virginia sold beer with no problems, we buy beer at bowl games and Jerry's world with no problems. It's only a matter of time till LSU wants that $1,000,000 extra a game!

This is absolutely the case for me.. Sitting in the stadium club has changed the amount I drink before the game quite a bit.

I'm in agreement with this concept for all stadiums north of the Mason Dixon line.

LSU will do it as soon as the SEC goes for it

I'll be the first to admit I'll be more likely to stay if u can get a beer. But I doubt that alone will be enough to keep people in the seats till the end.

I was actually at the West Virginia game a few years back where they did this and I didn't like it at all, as there was just a constant stream of people trying to get by me to piss and/or get another beer...got to be really irritating.
as I see it, you can currently drink in tiger stadium without much of a problem at all, but having it technically prohibiting it makes people make it a little less conspicuous and also makes them behave a little better, imo....
