Shreveport/Bossier City Baws, what ever happened to Thug Chuc? Early 2000s Skreez-rats may remember seeing him bouncing back and forth between Shreveport and Bossier.

How proud are you that 'Ratchet" traces its roots back to the Skreez? For a while the rap game was strong in Shreveport. I feel like it's fallen off as of late. I do remember one local rapper named "Sniper" that would perform in the local Parish clubs (until he had to go back to David Wade CC for some re-education on how to be polite in society).

Also, is there any truth to the rumor that the Horseshoe Casino is slowly sinking into the Red River? Every time I drive through, I expect it to have been washed away. I understand the economy depends on gambling, so maybe they engineered a way to keep it afloat?

I was talking to a guy at the Reno Air Races last year who was a big-time card player in Vegas and Atlantic City. I told him people from Shreveport call it 'Little Vegas" (I have heard that several times). He had never heard of it.

What part of Shreveport did you live? Has it taken a turn for the worst like most of the old neighborhoods?

Which was the best public school in Shreveport?

Or was Loyola the golden standard? I understand that was probably expensive; where did the affluent public schoolers go?

Caddo High was just named best public HS in the state, so

most affluent public students probably go to Byrd though since that is where South Highlanders would be zoned

In the 80's it was Shreve, Jesuit and St. Vincent in no particular order.

Byrd did not become prominent again until it became a magnet school.

Depends in which decade/era. Originally it was Byrd, then Captain Shreve. Later it became Caddo Magnet or Byrd then Shreve.

RIP to the rocket at Betty Virginia.

I miss the movie theater, Chucky Cheese, and Service Merchandise right off of East Kings. Hobby Lobby is there now.

El Chicos on Greenwood. I would ride with the parents all the way from Minden just to go there.

Log ride at Hamel's

Mudbugs game at the Hirsch the first time around

Going to the Shreveport Captains games and getting ice cream in the MLB helmets.

Caddo Magnet is/was the best school academically public or private. Byrd is good if you're in honors or gateway. God help you if you're in general level classes .

Loyola is not really that great of a school, it's just private. This is relatively speaking of course. Obviously it's miles better than say Southwood or something.

Shreveport really has 4 good schools that you can attend.

Academically, the best would be Caddo Magnet.

In terms of affluence, in my opinion, the nicest part of town is South Highlands and Fairfield. But, as a whole, the more affluent areas are out in Ellerbe (Ellerbe Estates, Railsback, Southern Trace, Long Lake). I believe that is zoned for Captain Shreve.

Loyola is the sole private school that is worth your time to attend. As previously mentioned, it's not that great, it's just a legitimate private school. Your other options are Evangel and Calvary (which are appropriately situated on Broadacres and Linwood). If you can play college ball, attend one of those two.

In a nutshell, flip a coin between:
Caddo
Captain Shreve
Loyola
Byrd.

You can't go wrong with either. All students know one another and (with the magnet programs) typically live next to one another.
